AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team moved to 3-0 at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 4-0 win over Davis & Elkins College.
Minnesota Crookston improved to 6-5 with Monday's win. The Golden Eagles are 2-0 against the Senators this season. Davis & Elkins dropped to 0-6 with the loss at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Fla.
The Golden Eagles were led by a shutout performance on the hill.
Jake Osowski (R-Jr., RHP, East Grand Forks, Minn.) picked up his first win of the season after tossing six innings. He allowed six hits, struck out six, and walked just one.
Brody Sorenson (Jr., RHP, Grand Forks, N.D.) went two innings on the bump, allowing no runs on three hits. He struck out one.
Conner Richardson (R-Sr., RHP, Grand Forks, N.D.) shut the Senators down in the ninth, with no runs on no hits.
Jake Spearen was handed the loss after going 4.2 innings. He allowed two earned runs, on three hits. Spearen struck out three and walked four. Matthew Colon went 3.1 innings, allowing one run, on four hits.
The Golden Eagles tallied seven hits in the game.
Jake Hjelle (R-Jr., OF/1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) went 2-of-3, with two RBIs, and a run scored.
Paxton Nelson (Sr., IF, Spicer, Minn.) finished 2-of-3, with a run scored, and an RBI.
Josh Dykhoff (Fr., 1B/RHP, Wadena, Minn.) went 1-of-4, with a run scored.
UMN Crookston took a 1-0 lead in the second when Nelson drove in Hjelle.
The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 in the third when Hjelle drove in
Josh Dykhoff.
Minnesota Crookston pushed their advantage to 3-0 in the fourth when
Caden Headlee (Jr., OF, Fargo, N.D.) reached on an error, allowing Nelson to come to the dish.
In the seventh, Hjelle continued a big game with a single, plating
Matt Nunn (Sr., C, Edina, Minn.) to make it 4-0. The Golden Eagle pitchers continue to shut down the Senators to hold the 4-0 win.
The Golden Eagles trek to Melbourne, Fla., to take on Florida Tech University Tuesday, March 7 at 5 p.m. C.T.
