Golden Eagles Fall in Game One of Series at Missouri-St. Louis

St. Louis, Minn. – It was a long travel week for the Golden Eagles, who left on Tuesday afternoon in order to beat the storm in the Twin Cities to get down to St. Louis for a four-game series against Missouri-St. Louis.

The Tritons scored the games' first three runs on Friday afternoon and held off a late Golden Eagle rally for the 4-2 victory over the Golden Eagles.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-4 on the season, while the Tritons improve to 3-6.

The game would be scoreless through the first two innings, but UMSL would score a pair of runs in the bottom of the third for a 2-0 lead.

The Tritons would score another run in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.

Minnesota Crookston would finally crack the scoreboard in the sixth. Mike Hallquist (Jr., 3B, Fargo, N.D.) would double down the left field line, scoring Matt Nunn (Sr., C, Edina, Minn.). Hallquist would not come around to score.

UMSL would answer right back with a run of their own in the seventh to regain their three run lead.

In the top of the eighth, the Golden Eagles mounted a rally. With two runners on, Jake Hjelle (R-Jr., OF/1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) would double to left field, scoring Nunn and advancing Hallquist to third. With the tying runner on, the Golden Eagles would not score another run in the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, the Golden Eagles would go down in order, falling by two.

The Golden Eagles had six hits in the game, including three on the day from Hallquist, who is hitting over .500 on the season. Hjelle, Nunn and Caden Headlee (Jr., OF, Fargo, N.D.) each had a hit in the game. Minnesota Crookston left six runners on base in the game.

On the hill, it was the Dykhoff show. Jake Dykhoff (R-Sr., RHP, Wadena, Minn.) earned the start and gave up three earned runs on seven hits, while striking out eight in 6.0 innings of work. Dykhoff picked up the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season. Josh Dykhoff (Fr., RHP/1B, Wadena, Minn.) came in for relief of his older brother and allowed one earned run in two innings of work, while striking out three.

Minnesota Crookston will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon against the Tritons for a Saturday doubleheader. First pitch with UMSL is set for 12 P.M., from St. Louis.
