ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball team fell 90-64 to St. Cloud State University Saturday, February 18 at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, Minn. The game served as the season finale for the Golden Eagles.
Minnesota Crookston finished the season with a 2-26 (1-21 NSIC) record. St. Cloud State improved to 10-17 (7-15 NSIC) with the victory.
Matthew Allman (R-Jr., G/F, London, England) paced Minnesota Crookston with a career-high 17 points on 5-of-14 from the field, and 5-of-13 from beyond the arc.
Ron Kirk, Jr. (So., G/F, Milwaukee, Wis.) notched a career-high 12 points.
Xzavier Jones (Jr., G/F, Milwaukee, Wis.) added 13 points and seven boards.
Rambo Badyal (Sr., G, Kelowna, British Columbia) chipped in 11. Badyal played his final game as a Golden Eagle Saturday.
Minnesota Crookston shot 21-of-62 from the field for 33.9 percent. They were 12-of-36 for 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles were 10-of-16 for 62.5 percent from the stripe. The Golden Eagles committed 17 turnovers, while the Huskies had 19.
St. Cloud State had six players score in double figures. Luke Taylor led the way with 18 points. Dom Aguilar and Joe Mutimer came off the bench for 15. Andre Renta, Tony Dahl, and Kevin Cook each had 10. Ryan Bagley led the team with a double-double of 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
The Huskies were 32-of-62 from the field for 51.6 percent. They were 16-of-31 from beyond the arc for 51.6 percent. St. Cloud State went 10-of-11 for 90.9 percent from the foul line.
The Huskies took the early 9-3 lead on the Golden Eagles after a Taylor three with 17:25 left in the first half. St. Cloud State extended their advantage to 19-3 after a Cook lay-in. Minnesota Crookston got the deficit down to 26-13 with a Kirk bucket with under 8:30 remaining in the stanza. The Huskies responded with a 4-0 run on an Renta steal and basket to widen the gap to 30-13. St. Cloud State extended the lead to 36-16 on a Renta triple with 6:10 left in the stanza. The Golden Eagles cut the lead for the Huskies to 36-21 on an Allman trey. The Huskies pushed their lead out to 40-21 on a bucket from Renta. The Huskies went into the locker room with a 49-24 advantage.
Minnesota Crookston opened the second half on an 8-3 run as a Jones jumper brought the lead for the Huskies down to 52-32. St. Cloud State countered with a Matthew Willert three and a Taylor dunk as they pushed the lead back out to 25 (57-32). The Huskies extended their run to 21-1 on an Aguilar triple to push the St. Cloud State advantage to 73-33. The Huskies came away with the 90-64 victory.
