Olsonawski and Zahradka Lead the Golden Eagles to Dominant Win

12/9/2023 8:34:00 AM

Bottineau, N.D. - When these two teams hit the ice, we got to learn who would be between the pipes. For the Jacks it would be Mason Matthew and for the Golden Eagles it was Wyatt Olsonawski (So., G, Hallock, Minn.)

It really did not take long for the scoring to start as just two minutes in Gunner Ferrier (Sr., D, Baudette, Minn.) fired one from the point directly off of the faceoff win from Dylan Neubauer (Sr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) and the Golden Eagles had an early 1-0 lead. Fox Dodds (Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) wasted little time before getting himself on the board on an odd angled shot to stretch the lead to two goals just two and a half minutes later.

The second period would begin with a 2-0 Golden Eagles lead, but that did not last long. Tyler Zahradka (Sr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) got on the board just under two and a half minutes in and had the Golden Eagles up 3-0. Tyler Zahradka was a very important piece to the Golden Eagles as he was returning from a five game absence. His goal stood as the lone goal in a period that saw the teams each have 11 shots on net.

The third period began and the Jacks came in needing to get one quick if they wanted to be able to come back in this one. They got just that as Ethan Siemens was able to find the back of the net on a partial break and make it a two goal contest. The score would stay at 3-1 for most of the final frame with the teams trading shots back and forth. With just 24 seconds left, Tyler Zahradka would force a turnover at center ice and immediately fire it on the empty net, scoring his second goal of the game and effectively ending this game.

Wyatt Olsonawski once again played an incredible game. The sophomore goaltender faced 32 shots from the Jacks, allowing just one goal. Olsonawski is now 7-0-0 on the season and has a 2.19 goals against average with a .929 save percentage. He is first in the WCCHA Midwest in wins, second in goals against average, and second in save percentage.
