Weisensel Named Academic All-District for Volleyball

CROOKSTON, Minn. - University of Minnesota Crookston senior Mara Weisensel (New Ulm, Minn.) was named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Volleyball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators. Weisensel is the first Golden Eagle volleyball player to earn the honor. She joins soccer players Jada VanOverbeke (Hartford, S.D.), Brooklyn Fischbach (South St. Paul, Minn.), and Greta Saylor (New Brighton, Minn.), who earned Academic All-District® for soccer this season. Bren Fox earned Academic All-District® last season in women's basketball.

Minnesota Crookston has five student-athletes in the program's history who have earned Academic All-America®: Mark Olsonawski (1998, Football), Megan Eul (2012, Women's Basketball), Matt Borowicz (2014, Football), Jesse Jennings (2015, Baseball), and Harrison Cleary (2020, Men's Basketball).

The 2023 Academic All-District® Volleyball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.

Weisensel has a 3.96 GPA in management. She finished her career with 529 career kills, a .229 hitting percentage, 51 solo blocks, 85 block assists, and 136 total blocks. Weisensel is tied for eighth all time for attack percentage, and sixth all time for solo blocks.
