Minnesota Crookston Equestrian Has Best Showing Against SDSU Since 2021, Fall to UC-Davis

BROOKINGS, S.D., - The University of Minnesota Crookston equestrian team competed in two NCEA meets Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4 at DeHaan Equestrian Center. The Golden Eagles lost 19-1 to the University of California-Davis, and 16-2 to South Dakota State University.

Minnesota Crookston moved to 0-3 in NCEA and the ECAC. UC-Davis, the 2023 ECAC Champion, improved to 2-2 with the win. South Dakota State improved to 2-3.

Against the Jackrabbits, Minnesota Crookston picked up their most points since 2021 with two wins. The Golden Eagles were led by a win in horsemanship by RaeAnna Danielson (So., Harris, Minn.), and a victory in reining by Marley Halse (Fr., Mountlake Terrace, Wash.).

In fences against the Jackrabbits, the Golden Eagles looked to Alexandra Wentland (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), who scored an 82 on Mambo against Hannah Steele, but she fell 86-82. Juliana Gullo (So., Itasca, Ill.) scored 75, but fell 86-75 to Sophia Kregoski on Sunday. Belle Syrett (Fr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) scored 74 on Joey, but was defeated 84-74 by Julia Werkhoven.

Danica Bergagnini (Fr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) had the best flat score, with a tally of 69 on Ozzie.

In horsemanship, Madison Wojcek (Fr., Bremerton, Wash.) scored 75.5, but was defeated by Grace Gerbus on Bernie. Danielson upended Zuerker Merritt on Marshall, 72.5-71.5. Ava Jo Glenn (Fr., Ennis, Texas) scored 72 versus Shelby Cochran. Madison Wachtel (Fr., Wells, Nev.) scored 71.5, while Halse tallied 70.

In reining, Halse defeated Emilie Strahm on Colby, 70-69.5. Wachtel and Danielson each scored 70.5. Wojcek tallied a 67.5.

Minnesota Crookston's next NCEA meet will be February 10 against South Dakota State.
