Minnesota Crookston Volleyball Falls on Senior Day

Crookston, Minn. – Augustana was able to spoil senior day for Minnesota Crookston, sweeping the Golden Eagles in straight sets (10-25, 20-25, 25-27).

Minnesota Crookston falls to 3-21 (1-15 NSIC) and will end the season next weekend on the road at the University of Mary and Minot State.

Set One
Set one would be all Vikings, who would jump out to an early 8-0 lead, before Bailey Schaefer (Fr., DS, Brandon, Minn.) would collect a kill.

The Vikings would lead 10-3, but Maya Jones (Fr., OH, New Braunfels, Texas) would collect a kill. Playing in her final match in Crookston, Kora Norland (Sr., S, Fosston, Minn.) would collect a service ace, cutting the lead in half.

From that point on, it would be all Vikings, who would win the first set by double-digits.

Set Two
The Golden Eagles would settle into a little bit of a groove and play a good middle set.

Another Schaefer kill would tie things at four, but the Vikings would score the next three points. The Golden Eagles would say, we can do the same, scoring three of their own, highlighted by a Mara Weisensel (Sr., MH, New Ulm, Minn.) kill and a Madison Carsten (Fr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) service ace.

The set would be tied at eight, but the Vikings would score six points in a row to gain some separation and take a 14-8 lead.

The Vikings would eventually lead by eight at 19-11, but the Golden Eagles would fight back and get within three at 23-20 on a Schaefer kill, but the Vikings would score the next two points, taking a 2-0 match lead.

Set Three
The maroon and gold would get off to a quick 3-0 lead, with a pair of kills from Megan Schoenfelder (Fr., MH, Zumbrota, Minn.) and Schaefer.

Augustana would eventually take a 7-6 lead. Later, it would be tied at nine until the Vikings would go on another 6-0 run.

For the second straight set, the Golden Eagles would slowly, but surely chip away. A Kailee Waasdorp (Fr., DS, West Fargo, N.D.) would force a Viking timeout, with Augustana leading by just a point at 20-19.

Tied at 21, Augustana would score three straight and would have three match points, but the Golden Eagles would use a pair of kills from Jones and Schaefer and a pair of errors by Vikings' star Kia Kriener to take a 25-24 lead.

The Vikings would score the next three points to take the set, 27-25 and win the match in a sweep.
