Wayne, Neb. – Minnesota Crookston volleyball played an outstanding first set at No. 1 Wayne State College, but the Wildcats would control the next two sets for a 3-0 sweep (20-25, 10-25, 12-25).
Minnesota Crookston falls to 3-13 (1-7 NSIC).
Set One
Wayne State College would jump out to an early 4-1 lead, but the Golden Eagles would answer and tie the score at six after an ace from
Emma Malek (Fr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) and back-to-back kills from
Madison Carsten (Fr., OH, Wadena, Minn.), who finished with 10 in the match.
The Wildcats would lead 13-10, but another Carsten kill and a
Maya Jones (Fr., OH, New Braunfels, Texas) kill helped tie the set at 13.
Minnesota Crookston would then tie the match at 15 and 17, but WSC would pull away for the set one victory.
Set Two
Set two would be all Wildcats.
The number one team in the nation would lead 19-7, but a Carsten kill would cut the deficit to 11.
WSC would win the middle set by 15.
Set Three
In the third set,
Megan Schoenfelder (Fr., MH, Zumbrota, Minn.) would score the first points of the set for the maroon and gold.
WSC would eventually take a 11-3 lead, but a kill from
Mara Weisensel (Sr., MH, New Ulm, Minn.) would cut the lead to 11-5.
WSC would eventually lead by 12 at 20-8, but a Jones kill would cut the lead to 20-9.
WSC would pull away for the 25-12 win in set three and the match.
Stats
Carsten would have an outstanding match, finishing with 10 kills on 26 total attacks and five digs. Jones added seven kills on 22 total attacks, while Weisensel and
Audrey Cariveau (So., OH, Kevil, Kent.) finished with four digs apiece.
Kailee Waasdorp (Fr., DS, West Fargo, N.D.) finished with 12 digs, while
Dana Melby (R-Fr., S, Gonvick, Minn.) finished with 23 total assists.
