Minnesota Crookston Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Augustana, after Leading Third Set

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-18) to the University of Augustana Friday, October 6 at Elmen Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. Minnesota Crookston led the third set 16-11, but Augustana won the final frame 25-18 by taking 14 of the final 16 points.

Minnesota Crookston fell to 3-12 (1-6 NSIC) with Friday's loss. Augustana improved to 6-9 (3-4 NSIC) with the victory.

Top Performers

Madison Carsten (Fr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) guided the Golden Eagles with seven kills, she hit .103. Audrey Cariveau (So., OH, Kevil, Ky.) added five kills, and hit .118. Mara Weisensel (Sr., MH, New Ulm, Minn.) chipped in four kills, and hit .176. Dana Melby (R-Fr., S, Gonvick, Minn.) finished with 19 assists.

Defensively, Weisensel paced the U of M Crookston with five block assists. Maya Jones (Fr., RS, New Braunfels, Texas) added one solo block and four block assists. Carsten had three block assists. Kailee Waasdorp (Fr., DS/Lib., West Fargo, N.D.) tallied 13 digs, while Melby had seven.

Augustana looked to Maya Wente with 16 kills, and a .519 hitting percentage. Reagan Jansen notched nine kills, and hit .182. Lucy Bartee had a strong day for the Vikings, with 45 assists. The team hit .312 for the match.

Defensively, Lucy Bartee and Callie Hohenhaus each added two block assists. Erika Bute guided the team with 17 digs, while Bartee added 10.

Statistics

The Golden Eagles hit .122 for the match, with 22 kills and 11 errors. They were strong on the block, with one solo block, and 14 block assists. Their best set was set one, as they notched nine kills, and hit .219. 

The Vikings hit .312 for the match. Their best set was the first set, with a .410 hitting percentage. They had 21 kills in the first set. Augustana had just eight block assists.

Next Up 

Minnesota Crookston heads to Wayne, Neb., to face Wayne State College Saturday, October 7. The Wildcats are ranked No. 1 in the country.
