CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team fell 3-0 to Northern State University. The Golden Eagles played a strong second half, as they limited the Wolves to just one goal. It is just the third time this season Minnesota Crookston has limited teams to one goal in the second half. The Golden Eagles played a solid game after struggling in the first nine minutes.
The game was played on a rainy and windy day in Crookston, Minn. The Golden Eagles fell to 0-10-0 (0-6-0 NSIC) with Friday's loss. Northern State improved to 6-2-2 (5-0-2 NSIC) with the victory. The Wolves have won the last seven games in the series.
The Wolves had 20 shots, with 13 shots on goal. Minnesota Crookston notched four shots, with two shots on goal. Northern State had five corner kicks, while the Golden Eagles had zero.
Northern State got on the scoreboard in the fourth minute when Megan Fastenau scored on a Hannah Smith assist.
The Wolves pushed their lead to 2-0 in the ninth minute, as Calista Kocmick finished off a perfectly-placed free kick from Lauren Youngquist.
Kocmick scored again in the second half, in the 52nd minute off a Fastenau helper.
The Golden Eagles picked up shots from Greta Saylor (Jr., MF, New Brighton, Minn.), Kedin Geremiah (Fr., F, Winnipeg, Manitoba), Autumn Rabe (Fr., F, Kewaskum, Wis.), and Marsia Green (Fr., F, Waconia, Minn.).
Northern State was guided by Fastenau and Kocmick. Kocmick had two goals, while Fastenau had a goal and an assist. Smith finished with four shots. Fastenau and Chloe Voss each had three shots.
In goal, Abby Olsen (Sr., GK, Chisago City, Minn.) allowed three goals, and notched 10 saves. For Northern State, Alexus Townsend started and played 61:27, picking up one save. Elinor Sayers played the final 28:33, making one save.
The Golden Eagles remain at home Sunday, October 8 to host Minnesota State University Moorhead in a battle for the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock.
