Box Score MARSHALL, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team was defeated 2-0 by Southwest Minnesota State University Sunday, October 1. The Golden Eagles played one of their best defensive games of the season, as they limited the Mustangs to two goals. Sunday marked the second time this season the U of M Crookston has limited a team to two goals or less this season.
Minnesota Crookston dropped to 0-9-0 (0-5-0 NSIC) with Sunday's loss at Mattke Field at Schwan Regional Event Center. Southwest Minnesota State improved to 2-5-1 (2-2-1 NSIC) with the victory.
The Golden Eagles finished with three shots, with two on goal. Southwest Minnesota State notched 26 shots, with 16 shots on goal. Southwest Minnesota State notched eight corners, while U of M Crookston did not have a corner. Minnesota Crookston was led by shots from Ellerie Tarbox (Jr., MF/F, Carter Lake, Iowa), Jacqueline Calderon (R-Jr., MF, Indio, Calif.), and Kedin Geremish (Fr., F, Winnipeg, Manitoba).
Southwest Minnesota State jumped on the scoreboard in the 21st minute when Haley Mason scored off assists from Brianna Guerrero and Audrey Gallagher.
The score remained 1-0 at the break. The Mustangs pushed their lead to 2-0 when Mason found the back of the net in the 46th minute, unassisted.
Abby Olsen (Sr., GK, Chisago City, Minn.) limited the Mustangs to two goals, while notching 14 saves.
Minnesota Crookston returns home to face Northern State University Friday, October 6 at 3 p.m.
