FAYETTE, Iowa – The University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball team fell 78-52 to Upper Iowa University Saturday, January 7 at Dorman Gymnasium in Fayette, Iowa. The Peacocks outscored the Golden Eagles 33-17 in the first half to spur on Saturday's victory.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-15 (0-10 NSIC) with Saturday's loss. Upper Iowa improved to 9-7 (6-4 NSIC).
Xzavier Jones (Jr., G/F, Milwaukee, Wis.) paced the Golden Eagles with 22 points and seven boards on 9-of-16 from the field, and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Jones has 11 games scoring in double figures, while 22 was his career high with the Golden Eagles.
Blaize Sagna (So., G, London, England) added 12 points.
Marcus Thompson (Sr., F/C, Brooklyn, N.Y.) came off the bench for six points.
The Golden Eagles shot 21-of-62 from the field for 33.9 percent. They were 4-of-19 from deep for 21.1 percent, and 6-of-8 for 75.0 percent from the foul line. Minnesota Crookston was outrebounded 45-33. They had 18 turnovers for the game.
Upper Iowa shot 47.9 percent for the game. The Peacocks were limited to just 18.5 percent from beyond the arc, and they shot 71.4 percent from the line. Upper Iowa had four players score in double digits. Lucas Duax paced Upper Iowa with 25 points. Jake Hilmer added 20 points. Nick Reid finished with 10 points and 11 boards, while Dylan Jones chipped in 10 points.
The Golden Eagles return home to host Minnesota State University Friday, January 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Gary Senske Court at Lysaker Gymnasium.
