Minnesota Crookston Falls 3-0 on the Road to St. Cloud State

Box Score ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer team conceded goals late in each period as they fell 3-0 to St. Cloud State University in a night tilt Friday, September 30 at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn.


Minnesota Crookston drops to 1-9 (0-7 NSIC) with Friday's loss. St. Cloud State improves to 4-4-2 (3-2-2 NSIC) with the victory. The Golden Eagles held strong early on in both halves but gave up goals late in each period.


St. Cloud State had 17 shots, with nine shots on goal. Minnesota Crookston notched one shot in the game. Kathryn Brainerd (Sr., GK, Corcoran, Minn.) allowed three goals and had six saves. Evie Kohn didn't allow a goal and didn't have a save for the Huskies.


Minnesota Crookston had the first legit scoring chance of either team in the 14th minute when Jenna Custer (Fr., MF, Queen Creek, Ariz.) placed one over the crossbar off a pass from Abby Fettinger (So., F, White Bear Lake, Minn.).


St. Cloud State had an opportunity as they had numbers on the offensive end but an Ariel Hawkey shot missed right.


The attention turned to the St. Cloud State offensive end for the second part of the first half. The Huskies generated three corner kicks in a four-minute span. They were unable to find a goal on the set pieces.


St. Cloud State struck in the 34th minute as the Golden Eagles struggled to get organized in a transition. Jenna Dominguez found the back of the net off a Megan Kirby assist.


The Huskies pushed the lead to 2-0 on another transition goal as Dominquez scored again, this time on an assist from Ellie Primerano.


St. Cloud State went into the locker room with the 2-0 advantage. The Golden Eagles played a strong first 34 minutes as play was even on both sides of the field.


The Huskies had an opportunity early in the second half that was put in the back of the net but the player was called offside to keep the score at 2-0 in favor of St. Cloud State.


St. Cloud State had a great opportunity off a free kick from the Huskies but the ball bounced off the crossbar and didn't go between the pipes.


Off of a yellow card, St. Cloud State had a free kick that again almost went in and they had a follow-up shot saved to keep the game at 2-0 in favor of St. Cloud State.


The Huskies added a goal in the 83rd minute as Emma Duerr scored off an assist from Emali Ortega Talamentes.


St. Cloud State had a great opportunity soon after on a shot from Ortega Talamentes but Brainerd had a great save for the Golden Eagles.


The Golden Eagles return to the soccer pitch Sunday, October 2 at 1 p.m. versus University of Minnesota Duluth.
