CROOKSTON, Minn. – Northern State University scored three first half scores to upend the University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer team 4-0 Sunday, September 11 at the UMN Crookston Soccer Field. The Wolves were guided by two goals from Hannah Smith.
The Golden Eagles fell to 1-4, while the Wolves improved to 3-2 with the victory.
Minnesota Crookston had two shots, with one shot on goal.
Abby Fettinger (So., F, White Bear Lake, Minn.) led the team with one shot on goal. Northern State looked to Smith with two goals. Kelsey Selden added a goal, as did Megan Fastenau. Calista Kocmick, Mia Zagorski, and DeAnna LeMire added assists.
Smith got the Wolves on the scoreboard in the 24
th minute, with an assist from Kocmick to make it 1-0.
In the 27
th minute, Selden scored on a great cross from Zagorski.
In the 31
st minute, Smith added a tally off a LeMire assist.
The Wolves put in a final goal in the 61
st minute with a Fastenau score.
Alexus Townsend got the start in goal, and had one save in 45 minutes and got the win. Elinor Sayers came in during the second half and allowed no goals in 45 minutes.
Kathryn Brainerd (Sr., GK, Corcoran, Minn.) started in net for the Golden Eagles, with four goals allowed and five saves.
Minnesota Crookston remains in their friendly confines in Crookston as they take on Concordia University-St. Paul Friday, September 16 at 3 p.m.
