Minnesota Crookston Closes Out 2022 with Two Losses at Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, S.D. – Minnesota Crookston wrapped-up the 2022 campaign on Monday afternoon on the road at the University of Sioux Falls. USF swept the doubleheader, 6-3 and 13-3.
 
The Golden Eagles put the bow on their season with the most wins in school history, finishing 15-40 (6-24 NSIC).
 
Game One
The Cougars would strike first with a run in the first, giving them a 1-0 lead.
 
It would be in the third inning when the maroon and gold would answer. Jordan Peterson (R-Sr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.) would reach on an error, scoring fellow classmate Hannah Macias (Sr., OF, West Covina, Calif.). One batter later, Alina Avalos (Jr., IF, Riverside, Calif.) would double in Gabriella Blomdahl (Jr., OF, Duluth, Minn.). Peterson would also score on the play.
 
Trailing 3-1, USF would fight back to take a 6-3 lead heading into the seventh inning, with the help of a pair of two-run home runs from Kait Van Der Zwaag. The 6-3 score would be the final.
 
Minnesota Crookston finished with five hits in the game, led by Avalos, who finished 3-4 with a run driven in on the day. Shaelyn Grant (So., C/OF, Grand Junction, Colo.) collected a hit on the day and finished the season with a hit in seven out of her last eight games. Dana Zarn (Jr., UT, Winnipeg, Manitoba) also collected a hit.
 
Thayda Houser (So., P, Seymour, Iowa) went four innings, giving up four runs on nine hits, while striking out five. Houser finishes the season at 7-12. Evie Stuck (Fr., P/OF, Papillion, Neb.) went two innings in relief and gave up two runs on four hits.
 
Game Two
In game two, the Golden Eagles would score the opening run on the first of two hits in the game from Grant, this being a double scoring Avalos and giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.
 
From that point on, it would be all Cougars, USF would score 13 straight runs, leading 13-1 heading into the fifth.
 
The Golden Eagles would try and fight back. Peterson would double in a pair in her final at-bat as a Golden Eagle, scoring Alyssa Stillman (Jr., SS/2B, Hortonville, Wis.) and Jenna Parfeniuk (R-So., 1B/P, Winnipeg, Manitoba).
 
The double wouldn't be enough as the Golden Eagles would fall 13-3 in five innings.
 
Minnesota Crookston finished with six team hits. Grant led the way with her 2-2 day, while Peterson, Avalos, Stillman and Parfeniuk each finished with a hit.
 
Kamryn Frisk (R-Sr., P/1B, Anchorage, AK) pitched 2.1 innings and gave up nine runs. Frisk finishes the season at 1-6 in the circle.
