Crookston, Minn. – Minnesota Duluth used timely hitting and outstanding pitching to sweep Minnesota Crookston on Wednesday afternoon, 7-1 and 3-0.
The Golden Eagles fall to 14-35 (5-19 NSIC).
Game One
The Bulldogs would score an early pair of runs off of
Kamryn Frisk (R-Sr., P/1B, Anchorage, AK). Jordyn Thomas would hit an opposite field home run, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
Shaelyn Grant (So., C/OF, Grand Junction, Colo.) would single in
Hannah Macias (Sr., OF, West Covina, Calif.), cutting into the Bulldog lead, making it 2-1.
No runs would be scored until the sixth inning when UMD would add a run on a pitch-hit single from Elle Potts.
The Bulldogs would score four in the top of the seventh, including a three-run home run from Nicole Schmitt.
The insurance would be enough for the 7-1 victory.
Minnesota Crookston would collect four hits. Grant,
Jordan Peterson (R-Sr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.),
Alina Avalos (Jr., IF, Riverside, Calif.) and
Leah Macias (Sr., OF, West Covina, Calif.) would collect a hit in the game.
Frisk went the distance, giving up seven runs, all of which were earned, on nine hits, while striking out two. Frisk falls to 1-5 on the season.
Game Two
Game two would be more of a pitching duel as the game would be scoreless until the fifth inning and both teams had just one hit apiece heading into the fifth.
UMD would score a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning, giving the Bulldogs the 3-0 win.
The maroon and gold had two hits in the game, with Peterson and Grant collecting the only two hits for the Golden Eagles. Minnesota Crookston had three errors in the game.
Evie Stuck (Fr., P/OF, Papillion, Neb.) was good in the circle, giving up three runs, none of which were earned on four hits in 5.1 innings of work. Stuck did hit three Bulldogs in the game.
What's Next
The Golden Eagles will play their final home games tomorrow afternoon against Bemidji State in an NSIC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 PM from the UMC Softball Field.
