Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston used a huge nine-run inning in the 10
th inning of game one to earn their first win over Concordia-St. Paul since April, 20, 2002, by a score of 15-6. The Golden Bears would win game two, 9-1, to earn the split.
With the split, the Golden Eagles improve to 13-28 (4-12 NSIC).
Game One
Game One would be an absolute wild affair, going ten innings. It was the longest game the Golden Eagles have played this season.
Minnesota Crookston would get on the board first on a
Jenna Parfeniuk (R-So., UT, Winnipeg, Manitoba) double in the second inning, scoring
Whitnee Curry (Fr., UT, Lincoln, Neb.).
CSP would answer with four in the bottom of the second, helped by one of three Golden Eagle errors in the game.
The Golden Eagles would get four runs right back in the fourth inning.
Dana Zarn (Jr., UT, Winnipeg, Manitoba) would double and would come around to score on a Parfeniuk fielder's choice. Curry would later score her second run of the game on a
Jordan Peterson (R-Sr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.) RBI single, giving the Golden Eagles a 5-4 lead.
The Golden Bears would tie it in the fifth, but the Golden Eagles would take the lead right back on a Curry RBI single down the right field line, scoring Zarn.
The Golden Bears would score a run in the bottom of the sixth and both teams would not score in the seventh, so extra innings it was.
Both teams wouldn't score in the eighth or ninth innings, but Minnesota Crookston would explode in the 10
th inning for nine runs. Zarn would double home
Alina Avalos (Jr., IF, Riverside, Calif.) to give the Golden Eagles the 7-6 lead.
The Golden Eagles would then use three bases-loaded walks and a pair of singles from two freshmen; Curry and
Sydney Huwe (Fr., UT, Carver, Minn.) to cap-off the nine-run 10
th.
That is all the Golden Eagles would need for the 15-6 win.
Minnesota Crookston collected 12 hits, led by a 4-5 day from Curry, with three RBI and a 3-5 day with four RBI for Zarn. Avalos collected two hits, while Peterson, Huwe and Parfeniuk each collected a base-knock. The Golden Eagles had a trio of hitters score three runs as well. Avalos, Zarn and Curry each crossed home a trio of times in game one.
Nicole DeDen (Fr., P, Mission Viejo, Calif.) got the start and went four innings, giving up five runs on five hits.
Evie Stuck (Fr., P/OF, Papillion, Neb.) came in for relief and picked up her seventh win of the season, going six innings, giving up just one run on seven hits.
Game Two
Game two would see less offense. CSP would score the first five runs of the game, but the Golden Eagles would try and claw their way back into the game.
Leah Macias (Sr., OF, West Covina, Calif.) drove in Avalos with a single up the middle, making it a 5-1 game, in favor of CSP.
The Golden Bears would go on to score the next four runs, earning the 9-1 win in six innings.
Curry, Zarn and Macias were the lone Golden Eagles to collect a base hit in the game.
Thayda Houser (So., P, Seymour, Iowa) fell to 5-9 on the season, going three innings in the circle. The sophomore gave up five runs on seven hits.
