Minot, N.D. – Minot State used a two out rally in the bottom of the fifth to score two runs and scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Minnesota Crookston 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in the Minot State Bubble.
With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 3-1 on the season, while the Beavers continue their perfect start to the season and move to 4-0.
Evie Stuck (Fr., P/OF, Papillion, Neb.) would get the start once again in the circle and hold the Beavers bats at bay for most of the game.
The Golden Eagles finished with two hits in the game, the first of which came in the top of the third on a
Hannah Macias (Sr., OF, West Covina, Calif.) single to left field. Macias would be stranded at first base.
The Golden Eagles would have their best chance of the game to score in the top of the fifth.
Leah Macias (Sr., OF, West Covina, Calif.) was hit by a pitch and then advanced to third, after
Jenna Parfeniuk (R-So., UT, Winnipeg, Man.) laid down a bunt and reached on an error. Parfeniuk would steal second, but would be stuck there after
Gabriella Blomdahl (Jr., OF, Duluth, Minn.) grounded out to third and
Whitnee Curry (Fr., IF, Lincoln, Minn.) grounded out to second.
The Beavers would take advantage, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Minot State would score another in the bottom of the sixth and that is all they would need, going 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh to improve to 4-0.
Hannah Macias and
Alina Avalos (Jr., IF, Riverside, Calif.) each collected a hit in this afternoon's game.
Stuck was good in the circle today, going 5.2 innings, giving up 3 runs, just one of those earned on six hits, while striking out three. Stuck falls to 1-1 on the season.
The Golden Eagles will be back on the road next weekend as they travel to Aberdeen, S.D., to compete in a bubble tournament hosted by Presentation College. The Golden Eagles will play the College of Saint Mary (Neb.) and The University of Jamestown on Friday afternoon. First pitch with the Flames is set for 2 P.M.
