Minnesota Crookston Women's Basketball Concludes 2021-22 Season with 81-60 Loss to No. 17/RV Minnesota Duluth

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team concluded the 2021-22 season Saturday, February 19 with an 81-60 loss to No. 17/RV University of Minnesota Duluth at Gary Senske Court at Lysaker Gymnasium.

Minnesota Crookston finished the season with a 4-19 (3-14 NSIC) mark. Minnesota Duluth improved to 21-4 (19-2 NSIC) with Saturday's win. The Bulldogs shared the NSIC North Division crown with St. Cloud State University. They both advance to the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament next week.

The Golden Eagles were guided by Kylie Post (Sr., G, Corcoran, Minn.), who had 18 points, three assists, and six rebounds, on 8-of-11 from the field. Emma Carpenter (Jr., G, Eagan, Minn.) came off the bench for 15 points. Kylea Praska (Sr., G, Thief River Falls, Minn.) had a season-high nine points on senior night. Abi Fraaza (Fr., F, Birnamwood, Wis.) came off the bench for 11 rebounds.

Praska, Post, Mary Burke (Sr., F, Virginia, Minn.), and Mattea Vetsch (Sr., G, Devils Lake, N.D.) were honored as seniors at the conclusion of the game. Post finished her career with 814 career points, and she fell just three assists shy of the Top 10 career assists list. Burke finished her career with 603 points. She was ranked 10th all-time in career-three pointers made, and set the school record for three-pointers made in a single-game with 18. Vetsch got the start along with the other three seniors after missing the rest of the season due to an injury.

Minnesota Crookston finished the game shooting 22-of-57 from the field for 38.6 percent. The Golden Eagles went 8-of-24 for 33.3 percent. UMN Crookston was an unblemished 8-of-8 from the foul line. The Golden Eagles committed 17 turnovers in the game. They were narrowly out-rebounded 35-34.

Minnesota Duluth was lifted by 22 points from Brooke Olson. Madelyn Granica came off the bench for 11. Payton Kahl and Sarah Grow each added eight. Maesyn Thiesen paced the team with five assists. Grow led the squad on the glass with seven.

The Bulldogs shot 31-of-62 from the field for 50.0 percent. UMD was 5-of-14 for 35.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 14-of-18 from the foul line for 77.8 percent. Minnesota Duluth had 38 points in the paint.

The Golden Eagles outscored Minnesota Duluth 20-15 in the fourth quarter. Minnesota Duluth was lifted by outscoring the Bulldogs 35-19 in the first half.

Minnesota Crookston graduates four but returns a young core of 10 players, along with an impressive incoming recruiting class.
