Crookston, Minn. – Blaize Sagna (So., G, London, England) scored a career-high 26 points on Saturday afternoon against Bemidji State, but it wasn't enough, as the Beavers closed the game on a 26-14 run to sweep the season series against Minnesota Crookston, 86-75.
The Golden Eagles fall to 1-11 (0-6 NSIC), while the Beavers improve to 6-5 (2-4 NSIC), with their lone non-conference wins being over the Golden Eagles.
Both teams would exchange baskets on their first two possessions, as
Xzavier Jones (Jr., G, Milwaukee, Wis.) and Sagna would help tie things at four.
Bemidji State would get red-hot midway through the first half, extending their lead to 12, 24-12.
As was the case in Bemidji, the Golden Eagles would fight back late in the first half.
Dezmond Washington (Jr., G/F, Morrilton, Ark.) would score eight points in the last three minutes, as his Golden Eagles would trail by seven heading into the halftime break.
The second half would be a back-and-forth affair. Minnesota Crookston would get within two on a straightaway three from Jones, cutting the lead to 51-49.
Trailing 59-55, Sagna would score a pair of free throws and finish a tough contested layup, tying things up at 59.
Matthew Allman (R-Jr., G/F, London, England) would bury a long two, giving Minnesota Crookston a brief one point lead.
From that point, the Beavers would outscore the Golden Eagles by 12, which would lead to their 86-75 victory.
Sagna led the way with 26 points and five rebounds, while Jones and Washington finished with 15 and 11, respectively. Allman finished with eight points off the bench, while
Chandler Meeks (Fr., G, Omaha, Neb.) scored seven points and dished out four assists.
Minnesota Crookston will be back in action in two weeks, as they host Minot State on Dec. 30, at 5 P.M.
