DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Duluth scored four goals in the first 15 minutes as the University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team fell 2-0 Sunday, October 2 at James S. Malosky Stadium. The Golden Eagles kept a clean sheet for the final 75 minutes of the game and were able to find more offense in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-10 (0-8-0 NSIC). Minnesota Duluth improves to 4-5-2 (3-3-2 NSIC) with Sunday's victory. The Golden Eagles finished with four shots on goal. The Bulldogs notched 15 shots, with eight on goal. Minnesota Crookston had two corners, while Minnesota Duluth notched six.
Minnesota Duluth was guided by Jacqueline Jares with one goal and two assists.
The Bulldogs tallied four goals in the first 15 minutes of Sunday's tilt near the banks of Lake Superior. Minnesota Duluth opened the game with a goal in the fifth minute from Eliana Maricano off a Jares assist. UMD pushed their advantage to 2-0 in the 10
th minute with a Jares goal off an assist from Lauren Hansen and Victoria Thorson. Minnesota Duluth extended the lead to 3-0 off an own goal. The Bulldogs pushed the lead to 4-0 off a goal from Myra Moorjani off a Jares assist in the 16
th minute.
Minnesota Crookston had two opportunities on goal in the second half.
Sarah Burgum (Fr., F, Mandan, N.D.) had a chance in the 48
th minute, while
Jenna Custer (Fr., MF, Queen Creek, Ariz.) had a chance in the 63
rd minute.
Alyssa Pavlacic (Sr., D, St. Charles, Mo.) had a laser off a free kick that was saved by Elaina Benson. Annelise Winch had an opportunity in the 84
th minute but it hit the post.
Madelyn Teplansky (Jr., MF, Apple Valley, Calif.) had a shot on goal in the 86
th minute for Minnesota Crookston.
Kathryn Brainerd (Sr., GK, Corcoran, Minn.) allowed four goals, with three saves.
Brooklyn Fischbach (So., GK, South St. Paul, Minn.) had a clean sheet in the second half, with two saves. Jennifer Norris played the first 69 minutes and notched a clean sheet, with two saves. Benson played 21 minutes, with no goals allowed and two saves.
Minnesota Crookston returns to action as they return home for Homecoming weekend Friday, October 7 at 3 p.m. versus Upper Iowa University at the UMN Crookston Soccer Field.
