• THE MINNESOTA CROOKSTON women's soccer team has a split weekend as they take on Minot State University on the road Friday, October 21 at 7 p.m. in Minot, N.D., before returning home Sunday, October 23 to host University of Mary at 1 p.m. The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with a 2-12-1 (1-10-1 NSIC) record. UMary is currently tied for fifth in the NSIC with a 6-3-3 conference mark. Minot State is in third in the league with a conference record of 7-1-4. UMN Crookston last defeated Minot State November 5, 2019 in Crookston, Minn. The last win over UMary came September 20, 2015 at home.
• BURGUM FINDS THE NET.
Sarah Burgum found the back of the net for her first career goal last Friday against Sioux Falls. Burgum put it away after a great set piece from
Julia Finch, in which
Lanie Padelford flicked it on to Burgum. Burgum has a goal and an assist as a freshman. The assists from Finch and Padelford were their first for the 2022 season.
• WINS OVER THE HAWKEYE STATE. Minnesota Crookston has found success against teams from Iowa this season, the home state of Head Coach
Kyle Halfpop, an Urbandale native. The Golden Eagles picked up a 2-1 win over Waldorf University, based in Forest City, Iowa, Sunday, August 28, and defeated Upper Iowa University, based in Fayette, Iowa, Friday,
October 7. The Golden Eagles are looking to build on the wins and pick up more victories over teams from the states of Minnesota and South Dakota this weekend.
• SAME SCRIPT. Both of Minnesota Crookston's wins in 2022 have had similar scripts. The Golden Eagles scored a goal in the first half from
Abby Fettinger in both games against Waldorf and Upper Iowa. Early in the second half UMN Crookston gave up a goal to the opposition to knot up the game 1-1. Minnesota Crookston then picked up the decisive goal in each game from
Alyssa Pavlacic to walk off with 2-1 victories. If it takes similar scripts to win more games this season I am sure Coach Halfpop and the team will be all for it.
• BRAINERD IN GOAL. Senior Goalie
Kathryn Brainerd transitioned back to goalie in 2022 after playing in the field as a junior in 2021. Brainerd has 13 starts, with a 2.96 goals against average and 90 saves. When Brainerd isn't starting,
Brooklyn Fischbach has a 3.33 goals against average, while
Emma Stempien has a 6.00 goals against average for the Golden Eagles.
• LOOK OUT FOR FETTY.
Abby Fettinger was key offensively for the Golden Eagles in 2021. The sophomore made the transition from the back row to the front row as a freshman and looks poised to make an impact in 2022. Fettinger's speed in front is crucial. Fettinger has two goals during the 2022 season, in both wins for UMN Crookston. She picked up her most recent goal versus Upper Iowa University. She is tied for the team-lead with four points. Fettinger leads the squad with 13 shots, and is second on the team with six shots on goal.
• SENIOR DAY. Minnesota Crookston will honor seniors
Ashley Chomyn,
Alyssa Pavlacic,
Kathryn Brainerd, and
Morgan Laplante on Sunday during Senior Day ceremonies. The quartet has meant a lot to the program. Chomyn has been a member of the team for four years, Pavlacic for three, and Brainerd and Laplante for two.
• GAME-WINNER.
Alyssa Pavlacic scored her first goal of her career as a Golden Eagle, proving to be the game winner against Waldorf. Pavlacic followed up the Waldorf performance by scoring a game-winning goal over NSIC foe Upper Iowa over Homecoming weekend. Pavlacic has been clutch for the Golden Eagles during the 2022 season. She is tied for the team lead with four points.
• FRESHMEN. Minnesota Crookston has five freshmen who are playing crucial roles for the Golden Eagles in 2022.
Uda Kimba and
Julia Finch have each started all 15 games.
Sarah Burgum has started 10 games and has a goal and one assist as a freshman.
Tayettin Brodzinski and
Britney Le have played key roles off the bench.
• ADDITION TO THE ROSTER. Minnesota Crookston added
Greta Saylor to the roster last week. The New Brighton, Minn., native was already attending UMN Crookston as a student and decided to come out for soccer. Saylor saw her first action of the season against Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State, playing a combined 53 minutes.
• SCOUTING MINOT STATE. The Beavers come into Friday with a 7-2-6 (7-1-4 NSIC) mark. They are currently in third in the NSIC standings. Minot State is averaging 0.93 goals per game, but allowing just 0.67 goals per game. They are attempting 14.7 shots, to 12.0 for their opponents. The Beavers are guided by Chloe Allan with four goals and 37 shot attempts. Sarah Upton comes into Friday with three goals, while Mila Robichon has two goals and an assist. In goal, Maddie Kindred has started all 15 games for the Beavers. She has a 0.67 goals against average, with 75 saves.
• SCOUTING UMARY. The Marauders come into the weekend with a 9-3-3 (6-3-3 NSIC) record. Kendra Park has six goals and three assists to lead the Marauders in 2022. Jessica Lemmon comes in with four goals and one assist. Rio Spruenken has two goals and five assists. The Marauders are averaging 1.47 goals per game, while allowing 0.60 per tilt. In goal, Madisyn Waltman has started all 15 games, with a 0.61 goals against average. She has 63 saves.
