Crookston, Minn. – St. Cloud State used a bevy of large runs on Thursday night in Crookston to defeat Minnesota Crookston 82-50.
The Golden Eagles fall to 4-4 on the season, while the Huskies improve to 4-4 on the season. Both teams are now 1-1 in conference play.
The Golden Eagles would get on the board with a
Zen Goodridge layup (R-Jr., C, Orlando, Fla.) to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0.
It would be a game of runs for the Huskies, who would get an 11-0 run to take an 11-2 lead early on in the first half.
Ethan Channel (R-Jr., G, Beaverton, Ore.) would halt the run with one of his two three point makes in the game to make it 11-5 in favor of the Huskies.
The Golden Eagles would cut it to just four after another Channel three at 16-12.
After extending the lead to 10 for the Huskies, mister energy
Zach Westphal (R-Sr., G, West Fargo, N.D.) would bury a three from the left wing to cut the Huskies lead to seven at 24-17.
SCSU would pull away in the first half to head into the halftime break up by 17 at 39-22.
The maroon and gold would come out of the halftime break and go on a 7-2 run in the first two and a half minutes, to cut the Huskies' lead to 41-29.
It was another large Huskies run, this time a 14-2 run for SCSU to give them their largest lead up to that point at 55-31.
The Huskies would pull away from that point on to defeat the Golden Eagles, 82-50.
The Golden Eagles were led by Channel's 10 points on 4-13 shooting from the field, while
Leonard Dixon (R-Jr., F, Demascus, Ore.) had seven, as did Westphal and Goodridge finished with six.
The Golden Eagles shot just 34 percent from the field in the game and 25 percent from deep.
Minnesota Crookston will head on the road to take on the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday afternoon at 2 P.M., from Romano Gymnasium.
