HONOLULU, HAWAI'I – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team fell 62-42 to No. 2/6 Lubbock Christian University Thursday, November 25 at the Malika Sport Tours Oahu Thanksgiving Classic at The Shark Tank in Honolulu, Hawai'i. The Lady Chaps started out the game with a 21-2 lead and they didn't look back. The Golden Eagles outscored the defending NCAA Division II National Champion Lubbock Christian 14-12 in the second quarter and 13-9 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome the first quarter deficit.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-5 with Thursday's loss. The Golden Eagles finish the Oahu Thanksgiving Classic with a 1-1 mark after picking up a 56-32 win over Chaminade University of Honolulu Wednesday, November 24. Lubbock Christian moved to 7-1 with Thursday's victory.
The Golden Eagles were led by the play of
Bren Fox (R-Jr., F/C, Norwood Young America, Minn.) with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Abi Fraaza (Fr., F, Birnamwood, Wis.) added 11 points.
Lily Orazem (Fr., G, Onamia, Minn.) had a personal-best with eight points on 3-of-4 from the field.
Minnesota Crookston shot 14-of-43 from the field for 32.6 percent. The Golden Eagles shot 0-of-12 from beyond the arc, and they were 14-of-22 from the foul line for 63.6 percent.
Lubbock Christian was guided by 12 points from Allie Schulte. Channing Cunyus added 10 points and seven boards. Juliana Robertson finished with eight points and six rebounds. Grace Foster came off the bench for eight points.
The Lady Chaps shot 25-of-63 from the field for 39.7 percent. Lubbock Christian was held to 4-of-25 for 16.0 percent from behind the three-point line. The Lady Chaps went 8-of-12 from the foul line for 66.7 percent.
Lubbock Christian won the rebounding edge 43-29, including 15 offensive rebounds. The Lady Chaps had 36 points in the paint and 19 second-chance points on the game.
Minnesota Crookston has played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in Division II, as they have played three games against ranked foes, and two exhibition contests versus NCAA Division I foes. The Golden Eagles will finally be able to take the court at Gary Senske Court at Lysaker Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 2.
