Minnesota Crookston Hockey Skates to 4-4 Tie With Minnesota State

MANKATO, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston men's hockey team skated to a 4-4 tie with Minnesota State University, Mankato Friday, November 12 at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn.

The Golden Eagles moved to 2-1-2 (1-0-2 WCCHA) with the tie on Friday. Minnesota State moved to 5-1-1 in the WCCHA for the 2021-22 season. The result moves the Golden Eagles to four points in the WCCHA standings.

Minnesota Crookston was led by Logan Syrup (Fr., F, Park River, N.D.) with two goals and one assist. Dylan Neubauer (Fr., F, Thompson, N.D.) had his second goal of the season. Tristan Morneault (So., F, Dieppe, New Brunswick) added his first goal of the season for the Golden Eagles. Sam Baxter (Fr., D, Grafton, N.D.) chipped in two assists for the Golden Eagles. Jackson Fuller (Fr., F, Bloomington, Minn.) added an assist, as did Tyler Zahradka (So., F, Grand Forks, N.D.).

In goal, Braden Schmitz (Fr., G, Devils Lake, N.D.) got the start but Jared Aamold (Fr., G, Breckenridge, Minn.) came on in relief of Schmitz and got the result for the Golden Eagles. Aamold is 1-0-1 in goal for the Golden Eagles this season.

The Mavericks scored the first goal of the game with just 44 seconds left in the first period, taking a 1-0 lead. Minnesota State would go into the intermission with a 1-0 lead.

The Mavericks pushed the lead to 2-0 with 6:27 remaining in the second period.

Minnesota Crookston trimmed the deficit to 2-1 at the 6:11 mark of the second period when Syrup found the back of the net off a Baxter assist. Syrup's goal came just 16 seconds after the second goal of the game for the Mavericks.

The score would sit as 2-1 in favor of the Mavericks heading into the third period.

The Golden Eagles knotted the game up 2-2 at the 18:14 mark of the third period when Syrup tallied his second goal of the game off assists from Sam Baxter (Fr., D, Grafton, N.D.) and Fuller.

Minnesota Crookston took the 3-2 advantage with 16:39 remaining in the third when Tristan Morneault scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Zahradka.

The Mavericks knotted the game up 3-3 with 14:39 elapsed in the third period when Parker Jamison scored off assists from Dom Valente and Dan Duncan.

Minnesota State took the lead back 4-3 with 10:05 left in the third period.

The Golden Eagles would get the equalizer with 6:55 left in the game on a Neubauer tally off an assist from Syrup.

Syrup now leads the team in points with 10 with three goals and seven assists. Zahradka moved to nine points on the year with an assist Friday, he has seven goals to lead the way for the team and has one assist on the year. Baxter picked up his second and third assists of the season. Fuller notched his second assist of the season for the Golden Eagles. Neubauer moved to three points on the year with two goals and an assist.

Minnesota Crookston will have a quick turnaround as they take on Minnesota State Saturday, November 13 at 9 a.m. in Owatonna, Minn.
