Minnesota State Scores Three Goals Late as UMN Crookston Falls 6-3 On The Road

OWATONNA, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston hockey team fell 6-3 to Minnesota State University, Mankato Saturday, November 13 at the Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna, Minn. The Mavericks used three goals in the final four minutes to solidify the 6-3 victory after UMN Crookston had knotted up the game 3-3 with 6:03 remaining in the third.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 2-2-2 (1-1-2 WCCHA) with Saturday's loss. Minnesota State improves to 6-1-1 (6-1-1 WCCHA) with the victory. The Mavericks currently lead the Southeast Division of the WCCHA. The Golden Eagles have four points and sit in fourth in the Northwest Division.

The Golden Eagles were guided by two goals from Dylan Borseth (Jr., F, Williston, N.D.). Nikolai Rajala (Fr., F, Coleraine, Minn.) added two assists. Casey Kallock (Sr., D, Alvarado, Minn.) chipped in a goal. Logan Syrup (Fr., F, Park River, N.D.) and Tristan Morneault (So., F, Dieppe, New Brunswick) each added assists.

In goal, Jared Aamold (Fr., G, Breckenridge, Minn.) started and allowed two goals in 30 minutes in net. Jake Sumner (So., G, Alta Loma, Calif.) came on and allowed four goals in 30 minutes.
Minnesota State looked to a hat trick from Ryan Quaintance. Alec Zedilik added a goal. Austin Cannon and Hunter Ovvock also added goals for the Mavericks.

Tommy Ogren picked up the win in goal for Minnesota State.

The Mavericks got on the scoreboard first with 15:46 remaining in the first period when Quaintance scored off an assist by Dom Valente. The Golden Eagles knotted up the game 1-1 with 14:58 left in the first when Borseth found the back of the net off an assist from Morneault.

Minnesota State took the lead 2-1 with 15:46 remaining in the second period when Quaintance scored his second goal off an assist from Zedilik. The Golden Eagles were able to even the tally 2-2 when Borseth scored for the second time in the game, this time off an assist from Rajala. The Mavericks took the lead back 3-2 with 6:25 remaining in the second period when Zedilik scored off assists from Quaintance and Cannon.

The score remained 3-2 until late in the third quarter. UMN Crookston was able to tie it up 3-3 with 6:03 left in the third when Kallock scored a power play goal off assists from Rajala and Syrup.

The Mavericks were able to capture the win with three goals in the final four minutes. Quaintance picked up the hat trick at the 3:32 mark off an assist from Hayden Evien. Minnesota State moved the lead to 5-3 when Hunter Ovvock scored off an assist from Charlie Blaiselle. The Mavericks put a cap on the win with Cannon's unassisted goal.

Borseth has four points on the season after scoring two goals Saturday. Rajala has 11 points on the season with three goals and a team-high eight assists. Kallock has notched eight points with three goals and five assists. Syrup is the co-leader with Rajala for points with 11 with three goals and a team-high eight assists to tie Rajala. Morneault has two points with a goal and an assist.

Minnesota Crookston returns home next weekend to host the University of Minnesota Friday, November 19 at 7 p.m. at the Crookston Sports Center and Saturday, November 20 at 2 p.m. at the Crookston Sports Center.
