Odor Puts Up 24 Points on Senior Night as the Golden Eagles Fall Short 63-58

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Mary edged the University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team 63-58 Sat., Feb. 16 at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston, Minn. The Marauders utilized runs in the third and quarter to earn the win Saturday over the Golden Eagles. Minnesota Crookston was within one point in a low-scoring first half as they trailed UMary 20-19, but they were unable to take advantage of key opportunities down the stretch.

The Golden Eagles fall to 10-16 (5-15 NSIC) with Saturday's loss. UMary improves to 16-7 (14-6 NSIC) with the victory. The Marauders pick up the season sweep of the Golden Eagles.

Minnesota Crookston senior Isieoma Odor (R-Sr., F/C, Bloomington, Minn.) led the way with one of her best nights as a Golden Eagle. Odor had 24 points on 10-of-15 from the field. Her 24 points helped her surpass her former teammate Alexa Thielman for fourth all-time at Minnesota Crookston. Odor currently has 1,469 career points. She needs 91 points to move past another former teammate in Katrina Nordick, who currently is third all-time for the Golden Eagles. Odor has the career mark for rebounds for Minnesota Crookston with 758 career boards.

Julia Peplinski (Fr., F/C, Hustisford, Wis.) showed great promise for the Golden Eagles as she finished off her best weekend in her young career with seven points and 11 rebounds. Peplinski averaged 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of games.

Bren Fox (Fr., F/C, Norwood Young America, Minn.) added seven points and nine rebounds for Minnesota Crookston. Fox was a big presence on the glass for the Golden Eagles on the weekend. Fox averaged 14 rebounds per game for Minnesota Crookston.

Paige Cornale (Fr., G, Oak Creek, Wis.) chipped in eight points, while Paige Weakley (Jr., G/F, Kearney, Mo.) notched seven points on the day.

The Golden Eagles shot 23-of-57 for the day for 40.4 percent. Minnesota Crookston was 4-of-16 for 25.0 percent. The Golden Eagles shot 8-of-11 for 72.7 percent from the foul line.
Minnesota Crookston was crucial on the boards as they out-rebounded a very long UMary squad that has four players in their starting line-up over six-foot. The Golden Eagles notched 35 rebounds compared to 34 for the Marauders. Minnesota Crookston picked up 12 offensive rebounds.

The Golden Eagles struggled on the day with turnovers as they had nine assists to 16 turnovers.

UMary was propelled by Gabbie Bohl with 18 points and eight boards on 7-of-19 from the field. Cassie Askvig added 17 points and nine rebounds. Coral Gillette chipped in 11 points.
The Marauders shot 23-of-54 from the field for 42.6 percent. UMary was 6-of-12 from beyond the arc for 50.0 percent, while they were just 11-of-20 for 55.0 percent from the foul line.
The Marauders had eight assists to 12 turnovers on the game.

Minnesota Crookston got on the board with a Fox basket with 8:41 left in the game. Neither team would score a basket again until the 3:59 mark when Fox scored on a put-back.
UMary trailed 6-0 before they finally got on the scoreboard with 2:36 remaining in the first quarter with a Bohl jumper.

Minnesota Crookston pushed their lead out to 12-6 with a Cornale fast-break bucket. A Gillette three-pointer pulled the Marauders within 12-9 going into the quarter break.

UMary cut the lead to 12-11 on a Bohl jumper early in the second stanza. The Golden Eagles pushed their lead out to 16-13 with an Odor jumper. The Marauders utilized a 5-0 run, culminating in an Askvig trey, as they took an 18-16 lead.

Minnesota Crookston took the lead back 19-18 on a Peplinski trey. Askvig hit a pair of free throws to give the Marauders a 20-19 advantage going into the locker room.

Odor got the Golden Eagles going in the third quarter as she drained a trey to put Minnesota Crookston up 22-20. The Marauders countered with a 7-3 run as a Gillette triple put UMary up 27-25. Fox completed an old-fashioned three-point play for the Golden Eagles as they took a 28-27 lead.

UMary tilted the ledger in their direction 29-28 with a pair of Bohl free throws. Minnesota Crookston countered with a 7-0 run as an Odor basket put the Golden Eagles ahead 35-29 with 3:23 remaining in the third quarter. A Gillette trey, and a Lexie Schneider basket cut the Minnesota Crookston lead to 35-34.

A pair of Weakley triples put the Golden Eagles back ahead 37-34. UMary closed the quarter on a 7-2 run as they utilized a Bohl jumper to take the 41-39 going into the quarter break.
The Marauders built on their momentum as they opened up the fourth quarter with a 7-2 run to take a 48-41 advantage. A Peplinski put-back put the Golden Eagles back within striking distance at 51-45 with 5:38 left in the game.

An Askvig jumper extended the UMary lead out to 59-49 with 2:56 left in the game. The Golden Eagles would cut the lead to five on a Cornale basket at the end of the game, but it wouldn't be enough as Minnesota Crookston fell 63-58.

Saturday was Senior Day for the Golden Eagles. Minnesota Crookston honored Odor, Caitlin Michaelis (Sr., G, Marshfield, Wis.), and Maria Delgado (Sr., G, London, England) prior to the game. The trio has been integral in continuing to help build the program. Odor has been a member of three NSIC/Sanford Health quarterfinal squads, while Michaelis has been to two NSIC/Sanford Health quarterfinals.

The Golden Eagles conclude the regular-season as they take on University of Minnesota Duluth Fri., Feb. 22 in Duluth, Minn., and St. Cloud State University Sat., Feb. 23 in St. Cloud, Minn.
