Minnesota Crookston Soccer Concludes 2019 Season with 3-0 Loss to Bemidji State

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Bemidji State University Fri., Nov. 8 in the season finale for the Golden Eagles at Minnesota Crookston Soccer Field.

Minnesota Crookston was able to hold Bemidji State to just one goal in the first half. The Beavers were a NCAA Division II Tournament team in 2018.

The Golden Eagles finish Kyle Halfpop's first season with a 1-15 (1-14 NSIC) mark. Minnesota Crookston continued to get better on the season, leading to their win on Tuesday 3-2 over Minot State University. Bemidji State finishes with a 12-5-1 (11-3-1 NSIC) mark. The Beavers move on to the NSIC Tournament which begins Wed., Nov. 13.

The Golden Eagles finished with five shots on the game led by two from Vanessa Shelton (Jr., MF/F, Tacoma, Wash.). Minnesota Crookston had one corner kick for the tilt. Bemidji State had 33 shots with 11 shots on goal. They won 12 corner kicks on the game.

Bemidji State opened up the scoring as Erin Becker found the back of the net in the 14th minute off a corner kick from Skyler Prentice.

The Beavers had three shots on goal in the final 30 minutes of the first half, but Athena DiMario Done (Jr., GK, Windsor, Ontario) made some strong saves to keep Bemidji State from scoring.

Bemidji State found the back of the net in the 58th minute as Sidney Bethke connected with Sara Wendt for the goal to push the lead to 2-0.

The Beavers added a final goal in the 78th minute on an unassisted goal from Maggie Cade, as she stole the ball from a Golden Eagle defender and put in the netter.

DiMario Done had eight saves on the game. She finishes her junior season with 242 overall saves. She sits in third all-time, needing just 36 saves to move past Lexie Gauger for second all-time in career saves.

The game was the final one for Minnesota Crookston seniors Jacqueline Burke (Sr., D, Anchorage, Alaska) and Paige Pettit (Sr., D, St. Michael, Minn.), who have given everything to the program. Two-sport athlete Mika Rodriguez (Sr., MF, Laveen, Ariz.) played her final game last Sunday and is currently attending a conference for school.
