Golden Eagles wrap up trip out west with 5-0 loss

Nampa, Idaho—The University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer team wrapped up their three matches in Idaho with a match against the host school, Northwest Nazarene University.

After losing the first two matches in highly competitive contests, Minnesota Crookston was looking to make the trek back to the land of 10,000 lakes with at least one win on the weekend. The matchup would be too strong for the Golden Eagles, as NNU came away with a 5-0 victory on Labor Day Monday.

Northwest Nazarene would get off to a fast start in the first half. Brooke Felzien would get the Nighthawks on the board at the 14:28 mark of the opening frame. Less than seven minutes later, Maddy Parton doubled the Nighthawks lead. At the end of the half, Northwest Nazarene scored on a penalty kick from Madi Taylor.

After the halftime break, the Golden Eagles were looking for a charge to get back into the game. Unfortunately, Parton would score her second goal of the game less than three minutes into the game. The Nighthawks would end up scoring one more to make it a 5-0 win.

For the Golden Eagles, Athena DiMario Done got the start in net and made 11 saves on 23 shots. Offensively, Kayla Stangeland had the one shot for Minnesota Crookston.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 0-3-0 on the young season, while the Nighthawks move to 3-0-0 on the season.

It's a short turnaround for Minnesota Crookston as they make their way down Highway 2 for a match with rival Bemidji State University. That match is set for Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
