Porath Notches 10 Kills as Golden Eagles Fall to No. 2 Northern State

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Porsha Porath (Fr., OH, Windom, Minn.) notched 10 kills to lead the Golden Eagles on the night, despite falling 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-12) to No. 2 Northern State University at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D.

The Golden Eagles fall to 2-11 (0-5 NSIC) with Saturday's loss to one of the nation's top teams. Northern State has a perfect 13-0 (5-0 NSIC) mark.

Minnesota Crookston had 27 kills on the match and notched 37 digs for the day.

Set One
Northern State got out to a quick 14-4 lead in the first set following a kill from Sally Gaul. The Wolves would ride the early momentum to a 25-9 win as Gaul sealed the win on a kill off the assist from Ashley Rozell.

Set Two
The Wolves got out to a 4-0 lead in the second frame following a Bry Goar service ace. Minnesota Crookston was able to cut the lead to 4-2 with a Porath kill. Northern State was then able to widen the lead to 15-6 on a Lexi Boesl service ace. Minnesota Crookston cut the lead down to 16-8 on a Northern State attack error. Northern State was able to take the frame as they scored nine of the final 12 points to win the set 25-11.

Set Three
Minnesota Crookston had a sense of urgency early in the third set as they took the 3-2 advantage on a kill by Lauren Wallace (R-Fr., OH, Bloomington, Minn.). The two schools would be tied at 4-4 following a kill from Sydney Kruisselbrink (So., S, Rochester, Minn.). The Wolves then took the next three points paced by two kills from Laura Snyder. Minnesota Crookston remained in striking distance down just 9-6 after a bad set by the Wolves. Northern State led 17-12 after a Golden Eagle service error. Minnesota Crookston quickly got a point back with a Hannah Stark (Fr., OH, Esko, Minn.) kill to cut the deficit to 17-12. That would be the last point in the match for the Golden Eagles as Northern State won the final eight points to win the set 25-12 and the match 3-0.

Minnesota Crookston returns home for a four-match home stand beginning Fri., Sept. 21 against Minot State University at 6 p.m.
