WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston softball tilts Fri., Apr. 13 to Concordia University-St. Paul. The Golden Eagles fell 11-3 in the first game and 12-4 in the second game.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 5-27 (1-9 NSIC) with Friday's doubleheader loss. Concordia-St. Paul improves to 22-16 (7-9 NSIC).
Game One
The Golden Bears used 11 runs on 18 hits to pick up the victory in game over Minnesota Crookston. The Golden Eagles were limited to just three runs on six hits.
The loss for the Golden Eagles went to
Paige Pitlick (So., RHP, Jordan, Minn.), who gave up just one earned run, but two errors hurt the pitcher on the day as Concordia-St. Paul scored three unearned runs off of her. Pitlick went 2.1 innings and had two strikeouts and three walks.
Victoria Bayliss (Sr., OF, West Bloomfield, Mich.) went 2-of-3 for the game with one run scored.
Gabriel Antolak (Sr., 3B/C, Zimmerman, Minn.) was 2-of-3 with one RBI.
Maycee Trujillo (Jr., 3B, Sioux Falls, S.D.) was 1-of-3, while
Samantha Proctor (So., C/1B, Champlin, Minn.) finished 1-of-1.
Samantha Sullivan got the win for Concordia-St. Paul after giving up just three runs on six hits in a complete game outing for the Golden Bears.
Concordia-St. Paul looked to Nicole Thompson, who was 4-of-4 with two runs scored. Carlie Hart was 3-of-5 with two runs scored and one RBI, while Aryka Knoche was 2-of-5 with three RBIs and one run scored.
The Golden Bears got three runs in the top of the first. The first run crossed as Thompson scored on a Knoche ground out. Hannah Carlson singled through the left side to plate Haley Schanks and Justine Schattner.
Minnesota Crookston got two runs back in their half of the first. Bayliss was the first run for the Golden Eagles as she crossed the dish on a wild pitch. Antolak then singled to center field to drive in
Haley Strachan (Jr., OF, Phoenix, Ariz.).
Concordia-St. Paul added a run in the third when Knoche tripled to right center to drive in Schanks to make it 4-2.
The Golden Bears extended their advantage to 5-2 as Thompson stole third and crossed home on a throwing error by Antolak at catcher.
Concordia-St. Paul added three more runs in the fifth guided by a ground-rule double from Hart to plate Cam Veenbaas. The Golden Bears held an 8-2 lead at the end of the frame.
Minnesota Crookston was able to cut the deficit to 8-3 in the bottom of the fifth when Strachan scored on a
Mikaela Rodriguez (So., SS/2B, Laveen, Ariz.) sacrifice fly.
The Golden Bears padded their lead with three runs in the top of the seventh led by a Knoche ground-rule double to drive in Makenna Giese. Minnesota Crookston was not able to get the runs back as they fell 11-3 in the first contest.
Game Two
Concordia-St. Paul jumped out early as they scored eight runs in the first four innings and held on for the 12-4 win over the Golden Eagles. Errors again caused trouble for Minnesota Crookston as they had four defensive miscues in the second game.
Luisa Silvain (Jr., RHP, Tucson, Ariz.) suffered the loss after errors and walks plagued her outing. Silvain allowed just three earned run on six hits with one strikeout and four walks in 4.1 innings of work.
Bayliss returned to the circle for the second time this season and allowed just one run on two hits in one inning.
Heather Cunningham (Sr., RHP, Jacksonville, Fla.) gave up two runs on two hits, while Pitlick allowed one earned run on two hits in 1.2 innings of work.
The win went to Knoche, who gave up four runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and one walk in five innings.
Minnesota Crookston had 11 hits on the game and stranded nine on the base paths. The Golden Eagles looked to
Rocky Bjorge (So., 1B/3B, Pror Lake, Minn.), who was 2-of-4. Antolak was 2-of-4 with one RBI, while Trujillo was 2-of-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
Concordia-St. Paul was guided by Thompson, who was 4-of-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Hart was 3-of-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
The Golden Bears scored first as Hart came around to score on a Thompson ground out, after leading off the game with a triple.
Minnesota Crookston had a great opportunity in the bottom of the first.
Taylor Allen (Fr., OF, Neepawa, Manitoba) scored on an error by the short stop after Rodriguez reached on a fielder's choice. With two runners on, Antolak delivered a double down the right field line to drive in Rodriguez. The Golden Eagles would have bases loaded with two outs after a Silvain single. However, Concordia-St. Paul got a crucial out, but not without Minnesota Crookston taking the 2-1 lead.
The Golden Bears overtook the Golden Eagles with four runs in the second. Hart singled to score Carlson and Amanda Parsons. Two more would score on a Thompson infield single. Lily Langevin scored naturally, but Hart crossed on an error to push the advantage to 5-2.
Minnesota Crookston pulled within a run when Rodriguez doubled to right center to drive in Trujillo.
The Golden Bears responded with a run of their own in the top of the third when Knoche doubled to score Schanks.
The Golden Eagles again got the run back when Trujillo doubled to right field to score
Khailyn Neumayer (Sr., OF, Morgan Hill, Calif.).
The Golden Bears widened their lead to 8-4 in the fourth propelled by a Thompson triple to plate Hart.
The Golden Bears secured the win as they ended the game with two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to win 12-4.
Minnesota Crookston is slated to play University of Mary Tues., April 17 at 2 and 4 p.m. The games are scheduled to be in Crookston, Minn., but could be moved due to field conditions. Stay tuned to
