CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston athletic department announced
Skyler Quinn (R-So., DL, Evansville, Minn.) of football and
Whitney Fenna (Sr., Foley, Minn.) of the western equestrian team as UMC Teambackers Student-Athletes of the Month for October. Quinn and Fenna both had outstanding performances during the month of October.
Quinn was chosen after notching 16 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, along with one quarterback hurry in four games in October. Quinn's best game came with seven tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble against No. 6 University of Minnesota Duluth. Quinn had six tackles, along with 1.5 tackles for loss versus Winona State University.
Fenna had outstanding rides during the Golden Eagle home show Oct. 20 at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC). Fenna took fourth in Open Horsemanship, while she took first in the reining during the Oct. 20 show in order to take Reserve High Point Rider honors. Fenna helped the Golden Eagle to a High Point Team honor in the Oct. 20 show. Fenna had a pair of fifth place finishes in Open Horsemanship and the Reining in the Oct. 21 home show.
Fenna and Quinn are both first-time honorees for the award.
The UMC Teambackers Student-Athlete Award is in the third season as a monthly award. It was made a monthly award during the 2016-17 season after being awarded on a weekly basis the prior three years.
