Box Score Crookston, Minn.- The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team kept pace with a tough Augustana University squad, Saturday afternoon, but an early Vikings goal was the difference in the 1-0 NSIC match.
 
Augie got on the scoreboard early as Samantha Tymkowicz (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) finished off a Riley Klose (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) cross in the game's third minute of play. The header was the Viking forwards fourth goal of the 2017 season and the only score of the game. AU had a couple other quality chances but UM Crookston goalkeeper Olivia Puttin (So., Rogers, Minn.) played well making 14 total , many of which came off corner kicks in the first period of play.
 
The Golden Eagles played well throughout the ninety-minute match and had a couple good offensive chances of their own. Jessica Withrow (Gardnerville, Nev.) had the first, and best, chance for the Golden Eagles as she got a clear shot off from twenty yards out. The frosh midfielder didn't get all of the ball that was saved by the Vikings keeper Taylor Machacek (Sioux Falls, S.D.). Machacek made two total saves in the conference win. Frosh forward Maggie Peterson (Princeton, Minn.) took the other Crookston shot that made it on goal.
 
Augustana University improves to 9-2-2, 8-1-1 NSIC, with the conference win and the Golden Eagles' record drops to 0-11-1, 0-9-1. UM Crookston will return to the pitch tomorrow when they host Wayne State College at 1:00 pm. Wayne enters the NSIC match with an overall record of 3-6-4, 2-5-3 in conference play and they suffered a 2-0 to Bemidji State earlier today.
