Bemidji, Minn.- In their 2016 NSIC opening game, the UMC Golden Eagles were bested 5-1 by the Beavers of Bemidji State University, Saturday afternoon. The loss evens the Golden Eagles overall record at 1-1, 0-1 in conference play.
UMC was outshot 14-4 in the conference loss as goalkeeper,
Lexie Gauger (Green Bay, Wis./Criminal Justice) was peppered with six shots in the opening frame, and another eight in the second half. The senior played all 90 minutes in goal and surrendered the five BSU scores, in addition to her seven total saves.
The lone Golden Eagle goal was scored by senior midfielder,
Kallie Gau (Monticello, Minn./Early Childhood/Elementary Education) in the fifth minute of play. The unassisted goal was Gau's first of the young 2016 season.
The Golden Eagles will have a few days to prepare for a pair of nonconference games next weekend as they travel down to Missouri to take on Northwest Missouri State (0-0) in a night game on Friday and Missouri Western State University (1-0) for a nooner on Sunday.
