Soccer Suffers OT Loss

Box Score St. Joseph, Mo.- The UMC soccer team played their final nonconference game of the 2016 season where they were defeated 1-0 by Missouri Western State University, in St. Joseph, Mo.
 
The two teams went scoreless through 90 minutes of regulation play with the winner coming in the 12th minute of overtime when the Griffons got a clean shot off a ball that UMC failed to clear in front of goalkeeper, Olivia Puttin (Rogers, Minn.). On the day, the frosh keeper made ten total saves but the 11th shot on goal was the game winner from Cassidy Menke (O'Fallon, Mo.) who scored on a second opportunity after Puttin made the initial save. With the win Northwest improves to 3-1 while UMC's overall record stands at 1-3.
 
Senior defender, Sam Deutsch (Lakeville, Minn./Accounting and Finance) got the only two shots on goal for UMC as they registered three total shots in the nonconference loss.
 
The Golden Eagles will look to improve on their 0-1 NSIC record as they return to conference play later this week, with a pair the of road games. UMC will play at Upper Iowa University on Friday and at Winona State University on Sunday.
