Box Score Moorhead, Minn.- The 2016 UMC athletic season officially kicked of today as the Golden Eagle soccer team took to the pitch with a nonconference game at Minnesota State University Moorhead. In what seems to be the typical UMC game, the Golden Eagle defense was the key in the 1-0 overtime victory as UMC limited the Dragons to three total shots, one of which made it onto the net.
Neither team was able to score in regulation where UMC outshot MSUM 9-3. The Golden Eagles did have solid opportunities as
Abi Aswege (Fr, West Bend, Wisc.) got three shots off, one of which was robbed off a header and
Nicole Corbin (Jr, Ramsey, Minn./Health Science and Biology) blasted a great shot that was saved by Dragon keeper, Reagan VonBerge (Yorba Linda, Calif.). The game's only goal came in the 97
th minute of play as frosh
Lindsey Daml (North Pole, Alaska) scored her first collegiate marker, early in the overtime period. Daml's game winner was off a shot from the top of the box that went across to the top corner.
Senior goalkeeper,
Lexie Gauger (Green Bay, Wis./Criminal Justice) earned the shutout where she only made one save that came in the first half.
The Golden Eagles will hit the road again on Saturday when they travel to Bemidji State University for a conference match that is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm. The NSIC game will be the first game of the season for BSU who finished last year at 11-7-1, 8-6-1 in the NSIC.
