Buttermore and Pamperin's Pitching Guides Golden Eagles to 8-3 Win over Bentley

CLEARWATER, Fla.Trevor Buttermore (Sr., RHP, North St. Paul, Minn.) threw a gem as the University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team picked up an 8-3 win over Bentley University at Jack Russell Stadium in Clearwater, Fla. Buttermore threw six innings and gave up just six hits and no earned runs with seven strikeouts as he pitched his final time in his four-year career at Jack Russell Stadium. Buttermore picked up his first win of the season.

Cody Pamperin (Jr., RHP, Shakopee, Minn.) came on in relief and preserved what Buttermore had done as he used just 24 pitches and gave up just two hits in three innings as he earned the save on the game.
The Golden Eagles improved to 6-7 on the season and 3-2 during their Spring Break Trip to Florida. Bentley fell to 5-9 on the season with the loss.

The loss for the Falcons went to Jack Burke, who fell to 1-1, going 2.2 innings and giving up six runs, two of them earned, on four hits with four strikeouts. Lefty Evan Walsh was strong out of the bullpen for Bentley, going 5.1 innings and giving up just one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts.

The Golden Eagle bats were led by Kenny Perez (Sr., DH, Orlando, Fla.), who was 3-of-5 with one run scored and one RBI on a solo home run. Jason Angelo (So., IF, Manteca, Calif.) went 2-of-4 with one run scored, while Riley Thompson (So., OF, Owatonna, Minn.) was 1-of-2 with one RBI and one run scored.

UMC would get on the board first as Ethan Mushitz (So., IF, East Grand Forks, Minn.) hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Angelo, who led off the game with a triple.

In the second, Mushitz would reach on a fielder's choice and advance to second on an error by the short stop. The play would score Thompson to give UMC a 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, Perez launched one over the left field fence, his second during the trip and third of the season. The Golden Eagles have hit six home runs in five games in Florida.

Thompson would continue the onslaught in the third as he singled to left to drive in Colton Haight (Sr., C/OF, Rogers, Minn.). Angelo then reached on an error by the short stop to drive in Thomas Kinsella (Sr., IF, North Branch, Minn.) to give UMC the 5-0 lead. Mushitz would then hit his second sacrifice fly of the game to drive in Zach Frazier (R-So., C, Grand Rapids, Minn.) to give UMC the 6-0 advantage.

The Golden Eagles would add a run in the fifth when Ryan Haggstrom (Sr., 1B/RHP, Apple Valley, Minn.) hit a sacrifice fly to right to plate Frazier and make it 7-0.

Bentley would finally get to Buttermore in the sixth. The UMC pitcher would have a no-hitter going through the first three innings of the game. The Falcons would get their first score as Cameron Cruz crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Zachary Littman would then triple to drive in Brandon Grover and Ryan O'Connor and cut the lead to 7-3.

Pamperin would shut the Falcons down in the seventh and eighth, retiring Bentley in order on just 10 pitches.

The Golden Eagles added a security run in the eighth as they pulled off the squeeze play with a perfect bunt from Dalton Parks (Sr., OF, West Valley City, Utah) to plate pinch-runner Timothy Scott, Jr. (Sr., OF, Macon, Ga.) and make it 8-3.

Pamperin would give up 2 two-out singles in the ninth but he would get Nick Neshe to pop out to get the save as the Golden Eagles picked up the victory.

Friday was UMC's strongest pitching performance as Buttermore and Pamperin combined to give up just eight hits and no earned runs with seven strikeouts.

At the plate, UMC is hitting .353 for the trip with 55 runs scored and 48 RBI's with six home runs, 15 doubles and two triples.

The Golden Eagles will return to action Fri., March 18 at 10 a.m. C.T. at Frank Tack Park on the South Field of the complex, as they continue their series against Bentley.
