Golden Eagles Conclude the Husky Dome Tournament Falling 25-8 against Concordia St. Paul and to Minot State 15-4

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team dropped two games in the Husky Dome Tournament at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud, Minn. The Golden Eagles were the recipient of an offensive outburst in the first game against Concordia St. Paul losing 25-8. The second game of the day put the Golden Eagles against Minot State which resulted in a 15-4 loss. The Golden Eagles slip to 0-8 on the season. Concordia-St. Paul improves to 6-8 while Minot State improves to 6-3.

Two innings would be the demise of the Golden Eagles which combined for a total of 23 of the Golden Bears 25 runs in the game. Concordia-St. Paul's 25 run game would set the single-game D-II era record. The Golden Bears were led in hitting by Freshman Justine Schattner (Fr., IF/P, Twin Lakes, Wis.) and junior Nicole Thompson (So., IF, Oakdale, Minn.) who had three hits apiece.

Concordia-St. Paul would find success in another freshman as Jamie Fleischhacker (Sr., OF, Maplewood, Minn) contributed hitting 2-of-4 with a homer and three RBI. The Golden Bears were most productive in the fourth inning which featured fifteen runs.

The Golden Eagles would have their best offensive output of the year putting eight runs on the scoreboard. In the second inning, Maggie Morales (Fr., OF, Tucson, Ariz.) would hit a double to right field which led to the Eagles first run of the game by Gabriel Antolak (So., C/3B, Zimmerman, Minn.). Brooke Timmins (Sr., C, Magnolia, Texas.) would follow in a big way with a homer to left center resulting in three RBI.

The Golden Eagles would have another strong showing in the third inning which featured three runs. The Golden Eagles would catch a break with an error made by Concordia-St. Paul at first base following a bunt by Jozie Garner (Jr., OF, Eureka, Kan.) which led to a run scored by Lexie Santoyo (Fr., OF, Kansas City, Mo.). Seniors Alexis Khoshaba (Sr., OF, Richmond, British Columbia) and Allison Foley (Sr., SS, Lockport, Ill.) would come through with two RBI to conclude the scoring in the inning. In the fifth inning, freshman Morgan Duda (Fr., IF, Clinton Township, Mich.) would hit her first homer of her young career to left field in a last ditch effort.

Game two would be similar to the first where just two innings combined for 12 of Minot State's 15 runs. Minot was led by two freshman Lauren Cowden (Fr., UTL, Moorpark, Calif.) and Daniela Carbajal (Fr., INF, San Marcos, Calif.). Cowden took advantage of each of her three times at bat going 3-of-3 with four RBI and tagging along the only home run of the game. Carbajal would go 3-of-4 with five RBI and two runs.

The Golden Eagles would not be able to follow up the strong showing they had earlier at bat only scoring 4 runs. Each of tUMC's runs would be featured in the fourth inning. Kaylin Beatty (Sr., OF, Andover, Minn.) would get it going with a single that led to a Maycee Trujillo (Fr., C/3B, Sioux Falls, S.D.) run. Foley's single would lead to another score for Kristi Larson (Sr., IF, New Ulm, Minn.). Khoshaba would then ground out but it would lead to a score ran in by Beatty. The Golden Eagles would make the most of a Beaver mistake as Victoria Bayliss (So., 2B, West Bloomfield, Mich.) scores on a passed ball to conclude the scoring for the inning and ultimately the game.

The Golden Eagles will have time to recuperate and will not hit the field again until the Tucson Invitational set for March 13, 2016 at 9 a.m.
