SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-12) to University of Sioux Falls Fri., Oct. 21 at Stewart Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Minnesota Crookston drops to 8-12 (5-8 NSIC) with the loss on Friday. Sioux Falls sweeps the season series with a pair of 3-0 wins over the Golden Eagles, one in non-conference play and one in NSIC competition. Sioux Falls improves to 13-8 (7-6 NSIC) with the win. Friday's loss also snapped a three-match win streak for the Golden Eagles.
UMC remains in ninth place, just two matches back from Sioux Falls in eighth place. The Golden Eagles are one game up on U-Mary heading into the final seven regular-season matches of the season.
Minnesota Crookston struggled offensively with just 18 kills and 16 errors on the match as they hit .030. The Golden Eagles looked to four kills from
Kelci Green (R-Jr., MH, Anoka, Minn.), who hit .111 for the match.
Rachel Freund (R-So., OH, Jordan, Minn.) added three kills and hit .111.
Sierra Trost (Sr., S, Ham Lake, Minn.) would finish the match with 17 assists.
Defensively, Minnesota Crookston was paced by five digs from
Maggie Perrel (R-Jr., OH, New Germany, Minn.), who also added three kills.
The Cougars were led by Jordan Calef, who had 10 kills and hit .529, while Bria Barfnecht also added 10 kills and hit .769. Makenna Rockeman chipped in eight kills an hit .375.
Sioux Falls had a strong match with 41 kills and just six errors as they hit .507. Sydney Schaap paced the Cougars with 36 assists on the match.
Defensively, USF looked to eight digs apiece from Rockeman and Abby Folk. Calef led the block with four block assists.
In the first set, UMC would be within two points at 12-10 after a Folk service error for USF. However, the Cougars would take the set 25-16 led by taking the last four points.
Sioux Falls would control the final two sets, hitting .600 with 16 kills and just one error in set two. The Cougars would have 14 kills and just three errors as they hit .524.
The Golden Eagles will continue their road trip Sat., Oct. 22 at No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State University.
