Box Score Sioux Falls, S.D.- The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team played for the second straight day, and they were knocked off 2-1 by Augustana University in a NSIC soccer game that had to be decided with overtime play.
The two teams played through a scoreless first half where the Vikings outshot UMC 13-3. Golden Eagle's goalkeeper
Lexie Gauger (Sr., Green Bay, Wis./Criminal Justice) did everything she could to keep her team in the game including making seven first half saves and another three saves in the second period.
The first goal of the conference match came in the 79
th minute as the Vikings were awarded a penalty kick that was converted by Emily Jacobson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) who scored her third goal of the season. UMC responded with just over three minutes left in regulation as
Hannah Riveland (R-Fr., Moorhead, Minn.) scored her first of the season when she headed home a pass from sophomore forward
Lorna McCall (So., Chicago, Ill.). The game ended on a similar play as Jacobson sent a ball in from the corner that was headed in for the game winning score by Rebekah Thoreson (So., Minnetonka, Minn.). The overtime winner was scored in the fourth minute of bonus play.
The 2-11-1, 1-9-1 in the NSIC, Golden Eagles will return home for a pair of NSIC games next weekend as they host the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday followed by another match on Sunday against Southwest Minnesota State University. Both conference contests are scheduled to start at 1:00 pm in Crookston.
