Crookston, Minn.- After earning their first conference points of 2015 last weekend, the Golden Eagle soccer team will look to add to their total this weekend as Concordia University, St. Paul and #13 Minnesota State University – Mankato hit the pitch in Crookston with games on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Â
Fresh off a 2-0 win over the University of Mary, UMC will have to continue their brief offensive outburst if they plan to knock off a Concordia Golden Bears team that has a record of 2-4 overall, 1-2 in NSIC play. Although CU is a couple games under .500, they have a quality offense that has scored nine total goals in 2015, including a 3-0 win last Sunday over the University of Sioux Falls. Â
Â
Golden Eagle's goalkeeper,
Lexie Gauger (Jr., Green Bay, Wisc./Criminal Justice) earned her first win, and shutout, of 2015 in the win over UM and she will look to better her 1-3-1 overall record and .96 goals against average.
Â
Sunday's match with the #13 Mavericks will be another tough test for UMC as MSU comes to town with an overall record of 5-1, 3-0 in conference. The Mavericks have outscored their opponents 25-3 and have a pair of six-goal scorers in Kiana Nickel (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) and Morgan Cottew (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn.).
Â
A pair of Golden Eagle forwards scored last weekend with both
Courtney Armborst (Sr., West St. Paul, Minn./Biology) and
Lorna McCall's (Fr., Chicago, Ill.) scores being their first of the season.
Delaney McIntyre's (Flin Flon, Manitoba/Sport and Recreation Management) has also been an offensive standout as she has assisted on three of UMC's four goals in 2015.
Â
The 1-4-1 (1-2) Golden Eagles will hit the pitch at 4:00 pm on Friday and 1:00 pm on Sunday.
