ST. CLOUD, Minn.- The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team fell 9-0 and 8-0 to St. Cloud State University Wed., April 8 at Seike Field in St. Cloud, Minn. The Golden Eagles fall to 4-28 (0-14 NSIC), while St. Cloud State improved to 21-17 (7-7 NSIC).
Bailey Braatz (So., RHP, Buffalo, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) got the game one start for UMC and would give up six earned runs on 12 hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
Brooke Vatthauer (Sr., LHP, Crookston, Minn./Health Science) would put together a strong outing out of the bullpen, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
St. Cloud State would start the game with three runs in the first led by a Jessica Goerger double to drive in Abby Bunnell and Alyssa Coletto.
The Huskies would add a run on a Coletto solo home run in the second.
Two more runs would cross in the fourth to put St. Cloud State up 5-0.
St. Cloud State added a run in the fifth as Tricia DeBoer scored on an error.
In the sixth, Megan Lehnen doubled to drive in Megan Larkin.
Kelly Franks got the win for the Huskies after pitching a complete game two-hit shutout.
In game two,
Sammy Knudson (So., RHP/IF, Fergus Falls, Minn./Health Science) got the start and would give up nine earned runs on 11 hits in 2.2 innings.
Jordyn Derflinger (Jr., RHP/OF, Henderson, Nev./Elementary Education) pitched well out of the bullpen, going 1.1 innings and giving up no runs on two hits.
The Huskies would start game two with six runs led by a Megan Hedstrom two-run single to drive in Goerger and Bunnell. DeBoer would triple to drive in Hedstrom.
St. Cloud State added three in the third led by Goerger single to drive in Bunnell.
Hedstrom got the win for the Huskies, going five innings and giving up no runs on four hits.
The Golden Eagles will host Augustana College (S.D.) April 11 at 1 and 3 p.m. and Wayne State College (Neb.) at 1 and 3 p.m. Sun., April 12.
