CROOKSTON, Minn.- The University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball team fell 66-44 to No. 8 Minnesota State University Moorhead. The Golden Eagles battled but shot just 34.5 percent for the game as they fell to the Dragons on Senior Night at Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles end the 2014-15 regular-season, their first under Head Coach
Dan Weisse, with a 7-19 (5-17 NSIC) mark. Their five conference wins is the most the UMC program has garnered since the 2000-01 season.
The Golden Eagles will play No. 2 seed in the South, Minnesota State University, Mankato Wed., Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. in the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn.
Minnesota Crookston was led on the game by their senior class, who again put forward a solid effort, ending their careers at Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Eagle seniors tallied 36 of 44 points on the evening.
Tyler West, Jr. (Sr., G/F, Portland, Ore./Communications) led UMC with 10 points on the night on 5-of-11 shooting.
Sam Howell (Sr., G, Seattle, Wash./Sports and Rec Management) came off the bench for nine points on 3-of-7 shooting.
Tomas Parker (Sr., F/C, Pequot Lakes, Minn./Management) also had one of the better games of his senior season with six points.
The Golden Eagles shot 19-of-55 from the field for 34.5 percent and were 2-of-14 for 14.3 percent and just 4-of-10 from the charity stripe.
MSU Moorhead was led by Isaac Sevlie, who had 14 points and four rebounds on 7-of-11 from the field. Jordan Riewer chipped in 13 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Ngijol Songolo came off the bench for 11 points and Matt Nelson had seven points and 12 boards.
The Dragons were 26-of-62 for 41.9 percent from the field and 9-of-23 for 39.1 percent from behind the three-point line.
UMC's six seniors were honored prior to the game, including West, Howell, Parker,
Tim Lubke (Sr., G, St. Paul, Minn./Sports and Rec Management),
Kevin Larson (Sr., G, New Ulm, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) and
Lucas Reller (Sr., G, Lead, S.D./Management). The six seniors have bought into Coach Weisse's system and played a key role in tying the program's mark for conference wins as they look to set a new standard for UMC basketball for the future.
