CROOKSTON, Minn.- University of Minnesota Crookston baseball player Ryan Haggstrom (Jr., 1B/P, Apple Valley, Minn./Accounting) and women's basketball player Katrina Moenkedick (Jr., F, Perham, Minn./Applied Studies) have been named UMC Teambackers Student-Athletes of the Week for the seven-day period from Feb. 12-18.
Haggstrom is a first-time honoree for the 2014-15 season, while Moenkedick has earned the honor twice. The women's basketball team has received 13 honors this season.Â
Haggstrom hit .750 with three hits and one RBI as the UMC baseball team opened up the 2015 season on the road against Washburn University last weekend. Haggstrom is looking to follow up a successful sophomore season in which he hit .359 with 26 runs scored, seven doubles, four triples and 20 RBI's.
Moenkedick averaged 21 points and 8.5 rebounds for the Golden Eagles as they picked up a split with Minot State and U-Mary. Moenkedick charted 25 points and nine rebounds as the Golden Eagles fell Friday to U-Mary. En route to her 25 points, Moenkedick achieved a career milestone as she became the ninth player in school history to score 1,000 points in her time in the Maroon and Gold. Moenkedick was 12-of-21 from the field for 57.1 percent.

Against U-Mary, Moenkedick had 17 points and eight rebounds on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. The junior was 19-of-35 for 54.3 percent on the weekend. She added three steals and two assists on the weekend. Her performance against U-Mary helped the Golden Eagles back to sole possession of third place in the NSIC North.

The UMC Teambackers Student-Athlete of the Week award was created to honor Golden Eagle student-athletes for performance on or off the field of play.
