UMC Volleyball Fall 3-0 to No. 4 Northern State

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-15) to No. 4 Northern State University Sat., Nov. 7 at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D. The Golden Eagles fall to 7-19 (3-15 NSIC), while Northern State improved to 24-2 (16-2 NSIC).

The Wolves left very little doubt Saturday as they controlled the match for the majority of it, defeating the Golden Eagles, who are still looking to get back on a winning track after not getting in the win column since Oct. 3.

UMC was led by Maggie Perrel (R-So., RS, New Germany, Minn.), who had 10 kills and hit .185 for the match with 10 digs, as well. The Golden Eagles would have 29 kills and 15 errors and hit .152 for the match. Alyssa Muelken (So., MH, Savage, Minn.) added five kills and hit .429, while Kali Erickson (Jr., OH, Fargo, N.D.) added five kills and hit .308.
UMC continued to use the 6-2 rotation and utilized two setters. Sierra Trost (Jr., S, Ham Lake, Minn.) led the way with 14 assists, while Kaycie Hagen (So., S/DS, Savage, Minn.) added 11 helpers.

Defensively, Perrel led the way with 10 digs, while libero Casey Cashman (Jr., DS/Lib., Ashland, Wis.) added eight digs.

Northern State hit an impressive .333 on the match with 47 kills and 13 errors. Mandy Kurosky led the way with 14 kills and a .583 hitting percentage, while Cari McGarvie had 13 kills and hit .435.

Northern State's star setter Drew Smith was a big part of the Wolves' success as she had 44 assists and six digs on the afternoon.

Defensively, Renee Hoffman led the way with 14 digs, while Kelsey Chambers added 10.

UMC will return home to wrap up the season next weekend. They will host Minot State University Fri., Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. and University of Mary Sat., Nov. 14 at 4 p.m. Saturday will also mark Senior Day for Stephanie Pearson (Sr., OH, Frankfort, Ill.), who will play her last match in the Maroon and Gold against U-Mary.
