Soccer Returns Home for Two Games

Crookston, Minn.- The UMC soccer team returns home this weekend for a pair of NSIC matches when they host the University of Sioux Falls at 11:00 am on Saturday and Southwest Minnesota State University at 1:00 pm, Sunday afternoon.

At 2-5 in the conference, the Golden Eagles need to make up some ground in the NSIC standings where they currently sit at the 12th position. With a pair of wins UMC could jump as high as the 5th spot if they get some help along the way.

In the Saturday morning tilt with USF, the Golden Eagles will take on a Cougars team that sits at 2-7 overall, 1-6 in conference play. Sioux Falls has struggled to score as of late as they have been shut out in their last three contests. Lola Weiss (Jr., Fulton, Mo.) leads the Cougars with a pair of goals, both of which came in their only conference win over the University of Mary.

In Sunday's afternoon match, a 4-5-1, 4-3, SMSU squad arrives in Crookston sitting in seventh place overall. The Mustangs picked up a pair of conference wins last weekend as they knocked off both St. Cloud State University (3-0) and the University of Minnesota Duluth (1-0). Southwest is currently led by Miranda Cadena (Sr., Highland, Calif.) who has notched four goals thus far. SMSU has used a pair of goalkeepers this season and they enter the weekend with a 1.18 goals against average.

Delaney McIntyre (Sr., Flin Flon, Manitoba/Sport and Recreation Management) has been the offensive standout in 2015 as she has scored a pair of goals and assisted on three others. The speedy midfielder has been a tough matchup for the Golden Eagles opponents and she will have to take things up a notch if UMC is to earn some points in the NSIC standings.

Golden Eagle goalkeeper Lexie Gauger (Jr., Green Bay, Wisc./Criminal Justice) had her busiest weekend of the season last week where she picked up a couple losses but she stood tall recording 19 total saves and dropping her goals against average to 1.08.
