41 First-Half Points Guide St. Cloud State Past Minnesota Crookston 62-14

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston football team fell 62-14 to St. Cloud State University Sat., Oct. 3 at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-5 on the season, while St. Cloud State improves to 3-2.

The story of the day was the St. Cloud State offense that put up 555 yard of offense, including 309 through the air and 246 on the ground. St. Cloud State was led by Nate Meyer, who was 14-of-19 through the air with 280 yards passing and three touchdowns. Jameson Parsons was his top target with six receptions for 133 yards with two touchdown grabs, while tight end Grant Thayer had five catches for 104 yards and a touchdown.

The success story on the day for UMC came in the ground game as the Golden Eagles' has their best day thus far on the ground with the play of Dre Person (Jr., RB, Detroit, Mich.), who rushed 10 times for 75 yards. Tra Hearns (So., QB, Bloomington, Minn.) returned to his starting spot at quarterback for the first time in two games, but struggled, going 12-of-24 with 127 yards but he did throw two touchdowns. His top target was Adam Connette (So., WR, Corona, Calif.), who had four catches for 74 yards and a touchdown, while Constant Jackson (Sr., WR, Jacksonville, Fla.) had five catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.

St. Cloud State controlled things from the on-set, scoring 14 points in the first quarter and 27 in the second quarter to lead 41-0 at the break.

Jaden Huff started the scoring with a four-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Huff would had a one-yard touchdown run later in the quarter.

Meyer would get his first touchdown pass for the day in the second quarter, as he connected with Parsons from 15 yards out to make it 21-0.

Meyer would add a 51-yard touchdown run to his day to put the Huskies up 28-0

The Golden Eagles would get their first scoring opportunity in the second quarter as Mike Maw (Jr., K, White Bear Lake, Minn.) attempted what would have been a career long from 51 yards out, but he missed the field goal attempt.

The Huskies would add to their lead when Meyer found Thayer, but their extra-point attempt failed making it 34-0.
 
St. Cloud State ended the first half as Meyer found Parsons for four yards out.
 
The Huskies would open the second half as Ledell White went in from six yards out to make it 48-0.
 
The Golden Eagles would finally get on the board as Hearns found Jackson for a 23-yard touchdown strike to cut the deficit to 48-7.
 
 McKinley Anderson would come in at quarterback and would find John Pass for a 13-yard touchdown to extend the St. Cloud State lead to 55-7.
 
A Curtwan Evans nine-yard touchdown run would make it 62-7.
 
UMC would put together a good drive late in the fourth as Hearns completed it with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Connette to make it 62-14.
 
The Golden Eagles will return home to host Bemidji State University for Homecoming Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. and will also battle for the Hub Cap.
