Box Score Crookston, Minn.- The UMC soccer team closed out a busy homecoming weekend with a 2-1 loss to Southwest Minnesota State University, Sunday afternoon. Much of the conference match was played in the middle of the field with each team battling for extended possessions. On the day, SMSU outshot the Golden Eagles 10-5, but UMC had the greater amount of scoring opportunities, most of which came in the first half.
Defender,
Ellie Brettschneider (So., Lakeville, Minn.) got UMC on the board in the game's 12
th minute of play as she finished off a ball that was sent in by
Danielle Gau's (Jr., Monticello, Minn./Exercise Science and Wellness) corner kick. The ball went in on the right side of the net and through a scramble in front of the SMSU goalkeeper, Brettschneider was able to finish off the scoring play from close in.
Both of the Mustang's goals also came in the opening frame as Kylie Redmond (Sr., Corona, Calif.) scored in the 33
rd minute of play, which was followed up by Megan Kilroy's (Sr., Paramount, Calif.) game winner in the 40
th minute.
UMC (3-8-1, 3-6) will hit the road for their next five games, all of which are NSIC matches. Game one of the extended road streak will take place at Minnesota State University Moorhead (1-7-3, 1-7-1), next Saturday.
