CROOKSTON, Minn.- The Golden Eagles soccer team kicked off their 2014 schedule with a bang as they knocked off Finlandia University, 8-0, Saturday afternoon at the UMC Soccer Field.

UMC outshot FU, 30-0, in a game where junior forward,
Courtney Armborst (West St. Paul, Minn.) picked up a hat trick scoring three second half goals within 15 minutes of eachother.Â

Miranda Mosher (Fr., MF, Watertown, Minn.) and Ellie Brettschnieder (Fr., MF, Lakeville, Minn.) got the Golden Eagles on the board as they both hit first half markers. Mosher scored off a corner kick from
Erin Mears (Sr., MF, Sioux Falls, Minn.) 12 minutes into the game and Brettschneider scored off of a strike just outside the box at the 23 minute mark off passes from Mosher and
Samantha Deutsch (So., D, Lakeville, Minn.).

Elizabeth Busch (Jr., MF, Sioux Falls, S.D.) opened up the second frame with a goal in the first minute which was followed by Armborst's three straight tallies. Her first score came off an assist from
Beth Lastovich (Fr., MF, White Bear Lake, Minn.). Armborst's second goal came off assists from
Kallie Gau (So., F, Monticello, Minn.) and Brettschneider.
Kallie Gau and
Cayla Bendel (Sr., MF, Lakeville, Minn) wrapped up the offensive effort for UMC. Bendel's score came off an assist from
Gabrielle Kekke (Fr., MF, Argyle, Minn.).

In addition to Armborst's effort, freshman Brettschneider would finish with one goal and two assists while
Kallie Gau had a goal and an assist.

The Golden Eagles (1-0) will stay at home for a NSIC match on Tuesday when they host Bemidji State University (0-1) in Crookston. Opening whistle is scheduled for 4:00 pm. Â
