21 Fourth-Quarter Points Lift Concordia-St. Paul to 44-3 Win Over Minnesota Crookston

Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston football team fell 44-3 to Concordia University, St. Paul Sat., Sept. 27 at Sea Foam Stadium. The Golden Bears used 21 fourth-quarter points to seal the fate of the game and send UMC to an 0-4 mark. Concordia-St. Paul improves to 1-3 with Saturday's win.

The Golden Eagles struggled to get anything going offensively on the day with just 158 yards of total offense. Talo Pascal (Jr., RB, Arlington, Texas) led the UMC offense with 12 carries for 59 yards. Ben Bucholz (Jr., QBm Perham, Minn.) struggled on the day as he went 9-of-21 for 90 yards passing with two interceptions. UMC was led by Jordan Hester (Fr., WR, Arlington, Texas) in the receiving game with three receptions for 45 yards. Defensively, Greg Lofquist (Sr., LB, South St. Paul, Minn.) had 13 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack to follow up his 19 tackles last weekend.

Concordia's Jared Russo led the Golden Bear offense as he went 22-of-27 with 248 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Cordell Smith had three receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns, while Jermaine Clemon had five receptions for 67 yards. On the ground, Tre Spears had an impressive perfromances with 20 carries for 139 yards and a touchdown. Dion Roche led the Concordia defense with eight tackles, four tackles for loss and four sacks.

Concordia started the scoring on the day as Russo hooked up with Smith for a 46-yard touchdown early in the first quarter. Tom Obarski added a 45-yard field goal to extend their lead to 10-0. In the second quarter, Obarski connected on another long field goal, this time from 48 yards out. UMC cut the Concordia lead to 13-3 as Michael Maw (So., K, White Bear Lake, Minn.) hit a 37-yard field goal. The Golden Bears to extend their lead to 20-3 going into half time as Russo hit Smith for a two-yard score.

In the third quarter, Concordia opened up the scoring as Obarski hit his third field goal of the game with a 47-yard kick. Russo would then hit Sammy Baucham for a 25-yard score. Concordia's Tre Spears added a 24-yard run, while Bruce Russell had a one-yard touchdown run.

The Golden Eagles will return home to face St. Cloud State University at 1 p.m. Oct.  4 at Ed Widseth Field.
